Rotten Tomatoes mistakingly posted Birthday wishes to film maker John Carpenter that read, "John Carpenter would have been 70 years old today! We celebrate his birthday by looking back at his five favorite films."

Carpenter took to Twitter and wrote, "To Rotten Tomatoes, despite how it appears, I'm actually not dead."  LOL

Regardless, Happy 70th to the legendary director!

-C!

And the problem is, social media picked up on it. The rumour mill began.

What's that old adage about a lie being halfway around the world and all that?

If you're really asking, Mark Twain said (approximately) "A lie can get halfway around the world while the truth is getting her shoes on."

Having been briefly "dead" myself, after Marc Guggenheim used my name for the victim on an episode of LAW&ORDER, I have some experience of this. One guy even tried to sell a bedraggled issue of IRON FIST on eBay based on my death.

You've gotta love Carpenter's sense of humor about it!

Maybe he was confused with Wes Craven? Nevertheless, happy 70th, John Carpenter!

He and his son did a live appearance here playing selections from his soundtrack albums.  It was a great show.  (the albums are pretty darned cool too!)
