It was a mistake by an employee at Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency who "pushed the wrong button" during procedures that occur during the handover of a shift.... but residents and tourists alike were very shaken for a short period of time Saturday over a BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT!! (Trump was out golfing!)

*sigh* The times we're living in!! Imagine getting this alert--with no way of knowing it was a false alarm!!

Did 45 tweet about it? Apologize? Reassure a whole state? Promise a review of policies?

Erm, no, as I type this, he's tweeted about that book and the Democrats.

What an absurd 'leader'.

Let me stress I am not blaming 45. But surely a head of state could offer an apology (on behalf of Hawaii authorities) and reassure people, e.g. "I will have policies examined."

But Mr Self-Absorbed could only tweet about the book.

There is one positive thing we can take from this, though. Trump did NOT "push the button". Make of that what you will.

This is one of those scenarios where I wonder why the "right" button and the "wrong" button are not on opposite sides of the room!

I'm wondering why the "wrong button" was so easy to press....

I'm sadly reminded of this scene from THE GREAT RACE...

Reality here is that there was probably no "button" involved, but rather the entry of an erroneous code on a keyboard.

Which is disturbing enough on its own!

When I say he did NOT "push the button" I am referring to him not launching nukes in retaliation. Somehow, there was no over-reaction. This time...

This was completely on Hawaii's state government.

No. Hawaii screwed up, yes, but the lack of any sort of response from the federal government between the alert and the correction is problematic as well.

This reminds me of a documentary I once saw about nuclear power stations - with control rooms designed to look lol white, pretty and uniform.

The employees who worked in the control room had retro-fitted all sorts of buttons to make sure the most dangerous ones were easily identifiable nd they didn’t ccidentally cause a nuclear meltdown. One button had. Massive ‘NO!’ Written next to it.

Form and function people, form and function.
