Can't argue with this:

Mind you, who signed it? God? He is the author (in the truest sense of the word, the men were merely writing his word). But then again, could it be Moses? He wrote the first five books, right?

I'm not mocking anyone's faith here, by the way, merely stating that "signed copy" of a 2,000+ year old book is rather spurious.

I wonder if it has a dedication too?

This points out how odd/wrong it is to call this the Bible, as if it is one book. Even if you ignore the really odd/wrong appending of the New Testament to the Old, just the latter itself isn't one book, quite obviously. Jews refer to it as the Tanakh, which is the Hebrew acronym of the first five books, the books of the prophets, and the assorted other writings. Whatever the internal contradictions within and between books, at least there is the cohesive sense of the collection belonging to one people. But it's still a collection of books.

I'm quite interested in reading the errata to this book!

Also - and this applies to dozens (maybe hundreds) of books that I've seen. It says "Signed Copy" and I'm willing to believe it. But signed by WHOM? Maybe the author, maybe the printer, maybe Billy the janitor who wanted to make an extra twenty bucks.

If I hand a book to Mr. Byrne and he signs it, I obviously know it; he and I were both there. If I get a certificate of authentication (which my wife did for me on a gift once), I might believe it (but who authenticates the authentication?)

And has been noted for a long time... does the signature make the book less valuable? If this signature WERE actually that of God, it would create a holy war that might devastate the Middle East, or even further away. Real signature... hee, hee, hee...

Certificates of Authenticity were all the rage for a while. Which led to an odd moment at MidOhioCon, when a kid (about 10) got me to sign a book and then asked me for a CoA. "Do you have some reason to think I am not John Byrne?" I asked.

Blimey! What did he want, a blood sample and a birth certificate?

This is why I don't go to author's book signings: they know how the story ends. ;)

In the case of the Bible, they don't know how it ends. The whole thing didn't conclude properly, hence why we ended up with the likes of the Book of Mormon. ;-)

Funny. But is Fanfic a term now? I'm so out of touch with the "now".
