That reminds of when my kids were babies, the prevailing practice was to not feed them any foods containing peanuts until they were toddlers. "Experts" thought this would reduce the chances of getting an allergy. I was skeptical thinking just the opposite, but bowed to their expertise.
Recently the National Institute of Health reported that introducing babies 4-6 months old to peanuts can actually reduce the risk of getting the allergy.

When my son was about 10 months old he suddenly spiked a really high fever, so my wife and I rushed him to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia...as a precaution, they decided to admit him to the hospital for observation, because he had a history of ideopathic seizures when he was 5 months old (we later found out that the seizures were caused by a genetic abnormality he has, but that's neither he nor there) (for the science minded among you, its a 16p11.2 genetic deletion)...so any way, the next morning the staff is bringing the kids their breakfasts and they bring him scrambled eggs. Now, that's one of those foods that they tell parents not to give a child before they turn 1, but my wife and I looked at each other and basically said "Eff it, we're in one of the best children's hospitals in the world, they must know what they're doing." He ate it, no problem...fever came down and we were discharged later that afternoon and made a follow up appointment with our regular pediatrician. When we told her the story she was less amused than we were...

I think there is this fanatical movement of a large portion of society to rebel against any and all norms. They need to rebel...must rebel...are addicted to rebelling.
I understand that there are all kinds of political agendas in the world so we need to be aware, but I also understand that most things in life are there for a reason....have evolved over time to be what they are because society had determined it's a good thing.
Water, for example, is purified for a reason....a good reason....a great reason. Why on earth would anyone think it is better to drink raw water?
Do these people also rebel against longer life spans? Is better health and longer lives all just a conspiracy to make you pay more money, over your lifetime, to the government and evil corporations? Insidious.
I'm all for questioning everything to make sure the best things are done, based on present knowledge. We still learn as we go and get better over time. But taking steps backwards makes NO sense.
Ok I'm off to drink some raw water from my muddy puddle in the back yard. Ahhhh...getting back to my natural roots. Thats how my great ancestors lived, right? So that must be how I'm supposed to be. But don't worry, I'll boil it first. I'm not uncivilized after all.

As mentioned in the previous water thread, I worked in the industry for 15 years.
Idiots. Every single one of them

Robert Shepherd has made some profound points. I can imagine, bizarre though it is, people being exactly like he described.

Indeed. The 'Do your own thing' attitude has been articulated as such for at least 50 years, and 'non-conformmty', 'marching to the beat of a different drum', 'following one's own path', etc., much longer than that. But when all of the above blurs into 'Now, they're just being fucking idiots'...it should be allowable to make that observation. And drinking 'shit water' is idiotic. If that makes someone cry and flee to a 'happy place', so be it, at least take the shit water with you. Or gargle with a Tide detergent pod.

Dietary fads mystify me,i read a report recently that only around 1% of the U.K. population are gluten intolerant, but sales equate to 10% of the population,so that`s a lot of idiots paying through the nose for a product with usually extra fat and sugar to make up for the lack of gluten in the name of `healthy` living!

me: "So what do you eat?"
