Forgive the cynicism, but I hope the following interview is real, it almost seems like a parody (I am wondering whether someone made it up):

I was a bit sceptical, also, because it doesn't state who is interviewing Moffat or what publication interviewed him. Again, forgive the cynicism, but I don't want to ever spread anything around that *may* be fake.

If it is a real interview, it seems a tad harsh. I won't overlook the flaws of the original series, but something like "The Robots of Death" and "Trial of a Time Lord" remain compelling viewing many decades later.

The quotes are genuine but taken out of context. This was not an interview but an alcohol-fuelled discussion between Moffat and three other fans/writers. It originally appeared in Time Space Visualizer, the long-running fanzine from the New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club. At least the link you posted includes Moffat's more recent comments on what he said:

I'm vile. Full of myself. Pompous, and dismissing all the writers of the old show as lazy hacks. Dear God, I blush, I cringe, I creep. I walked out of the interview high on my own genius, and wrote Chalk, one of the most loathed and derided sitcoms in the history of the form. The thing about life is, you can always rely on it to administer a good slap when required.

The original discussion can be found  in full here: http://doctorwho.org.nz/archive/tsv43/onediscussion.html

Thanks, Robbie.

It's a shame the original link didn't provide details of the source.

Anyway, the context is interesting.
