Just finished watching the fourth episode on Netflix, the one on G.I.JOE.

Lots of cool and shady behind the scenes stories on some of our favorite action figures.

Larry Hama shows up bringing the Marvel Comics side of things (Jim Shooter gets some screen time as well). I had no idea that Archie Goodwin had come up with the Cobra name for their opponents!

I wonder if JB has any G.I.JOE anecdotes from those Marvel days.

Oh, the He-Man episode is awesome too!

No Marvel anecdotes, and no anecdotes about the toys. After my time.

(For years I joked that the toy companies had been watching me, and had waited intil I stopped playing with toys before they released G. I. JOE -- and the even cooler MAJOR MATT MASON!)

I have Netflix so I'll check this series out.

I've stated it many, many times here, but there's a John Byrne out there in the multiverse who NEVER worked at DC or Marvel, devoting his writing and artistic time to HE-MAN, THUNDERCATS, G.I. JOE and M.A.S.K. (I am glad you got to do that M.A.S.K. cover a while back for IDW, though).

JOHN BYRNE'S VISIONARIES.

Wouldn't it be nice? Specially the Sectaurs movie crossover with the also highly sucessful insectoid cartoon characters created by the Earth-2 Wolfman/Perez duo.

They were just a little before my time, but I must admit to an ongoing fascination with the Colorforms line of Matt Mason-inspired Outer Space Men...

From my own time, I desperately wanted a Shogun Warrior (or two. Or six or seven) when I was a kid. I never got one. Although I did eventually get the Six Million Dollar Man figure I wanted!

I did notice this odd little bit of a connection to JB during the G.I. Joe episode.
This pictures appears to be traced or light boxed from JB's drawing of the Invisible Woman for the OHOTMU Deluxe Edition.

I've watched the STAR WARS, BARBIE and HE-MAN
episodes....very well done! Fun show. Man, I had
almost all of those He-Man toys! I was the perfect age
to get swept up in that. I agree with the show that
mentions part of the appeal being how it was a fantasy
world where anything goes: barbarians, guys with guns,
robots, dragons, whatever you could think of. This is
the same thing that appeals to me about superhero worlds
and specifically things like Kirby's FOURTH WORLD.

And there are 4 more yet episodes to be aired. I keep trying to guess which toy lines they'll feature but I can't get anything past Transformers.

Oh, nice!

I'm not very familiar with Star Trek toys.

Watching this series last night brought back a lot of memories. Hard to believe I had The Millennium Falcon, a couple X-Wings, Couple Tie-Fighters and Darth's Tie-Fighter -- and all of them had the action figures too. When friends came over we used to have some serious battles going on against the Death Star!

*Edit: And yes, I had the Death Star, too. Later on I even got Slave 1 for Boba Fett's character.
