This is the trailer for the upcoming big budget CGI Spider-Man movie called "SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE". The story itself, seems like a retelling of the Spider-Verse story arc from the comics and the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.

Lousy title... but looks like it could be a lot of fun.  I wish more Marvel films were animated like this.

My son & I will be catching this next Christmas, for sure!

Yup.  Although the animation looks good, I hate the tag line to end the trailer: "So how many of us are there?"  Hate the idea of multiple Spider-Men like I hate multiple Hulks, Wolverines and Iron Men.  Ugh.

Oh I do like this animation.

If only they could use their powers for good.

When I started working at Marvel, and presumably before, pros and fans alike were most dismissive of DC and their silly multiple universes. Marvel was much more solid and sensible than that!*

Of course, they hadn't hired Mark Gruenwald yet.....

Nice animation. Reminds me of the Gorillaz' videos.

This looks like one for the kids, so I don't mind the "Spider-Verse" nonsense so much... if they tried to shoehorn this storyline into the live-action films, that'd be more of an eyeroller for me.

They also tackled this during the "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon a couple years ago, and my son was a big fan, so he's already looking forward to the "movie version."

For me personally, I'm just thrilled to see the Prowler finally making an appearance (one of my favorite Spidey villains from my youth)!

Animation looks good. Too bad I have no interest in the Miles Morales Ultimate Universe Spider-Man. Might still take my kid though if he wants to see it because he loves Spider-Man almost as much as I did at his age and I don't think he cares which version of Spider-Man it is as I do.

*******

So do I.

De-uniquing is part of the reason I gave up on this era of the Marvel Universe.

So if they were trying to do a movie that totally destroys any hope of me enjoying the character, they succeeded.

As I've mentioned before, it seems like it was not so long ago Marvel's lawyers would not let us use the title "Holocaust is 100 Hulks" because the plural "weakened" the brand.

It seems that the current Powers That Be at Marvel don't give a damn about weakening the brand of their characters, which is a damn shame since all of these multiple redundant knockoffs of existing characters has indeed hurt the brand. Hell, I'm still trying to figure out how anyone could think that something like Hulk and the Agents of SMASH (which was an animated TV series about a team comprised entirely of Hulks) was a good idea, let alone approve it.

The latest trailer...

As it's been said, the animation looks good - but I wish the subject matter/adaptation was different.

This "Spider-Verse" stuff is not for me.

Jake Johnson voicing Peter just sounds way, way off.

The trailer looked like 3D without the 3D glasses, very
strange!

The animation in these trailers has blown me away.  What a gorgeous looking movie.

I'm no fan of multiple Spider-Folks....but the humor, action and look of this movie has me hooked.

Hopefully this is all Sony will ever be allowed to do with Spider-Man in the movies.  Leave the live action stuff to the MCU.

I was reading a UK reprint title recently - and SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS was published in there.

I didn't enjoy it due to the de-uniquing factor. Mary Jane and her daughter also had costumes/powers (it's set in the future, not sure if the tale is apocryphal or not). It didn't feel special with all these Spider-characters swinging off together.

Years ago, I loved the contrast between superheroics and normalcy, e.g. Nova having cosmic adventures but then becoming Richard Rider again - and heading off to high school (his supporting cast seemed akin to Peter Parker's supporting cast). Or Mary Jane worrying about why Parker hasn't shown up for a date, with us seeing him battling Shocker or something.

If everyone is special, no-one is special. How can Spider-Man, in a comic tale, be special if there are numerous spin-off characters - and his supporting cast are off jet-setting around the world or helping Stark create some technological wonder?

How different would the Lee/Ditko stories have been if there'd been other Spider-characters? How different would those stories have been if the supporting characters also had powers, abilities, etc?

I genuinely cannot follow current comics due to the constant deuniqing & multiple versions, constant new iterations of characters & just plain confusion within comics.

Who is who now? What is the current name of that character? Who has the original name now? How long will that situation remain?

Crazy, crazy examples for those not keeping up:
Doctor Doom became Iron Man
The Punisher became War Machine

Who’s Wolverine today & how many versions of him are walking around @ the minute?
Spider-Man has become the worst of this (the Hulk used to be a close second). There are more than five versions of this character being published each month. Not five comics with the same character, five different characters.

Utterly, utterly rediculous

I concur, Mr Woodcock.

I get asked questions sometimes by lapsed fans or non-fans. A recent one was, "If Logan is a future Wolverine, then why is there also a Logan in recent X-Men comics?" I have no idea. No idea at all.

I have no idea why there's a young Cyclops in the Champions, either. I just tell people to Google it.

But this de-uniquing has made it lost its lustre.

I did a topic, many moons ago, pertaining to the parallels between wrestling and comics. I feel there are some. Whilst de-uniquing may go on in wrestling, it wouldn't be as prevalent as in comics. Possibly everyone knows WWE's Undertaker. Imagine if there had been Young Undertaker, Undertaker's Cousin, etc. Yes, he has a (fictional) brother called Kane, an evil mirror image of him. There was an evil doppelganger in 1994. But he has remained unique.

You know, I didn't mind kid spin-off characters years ago, I quite liked Kid Flash. It made a certain sense that kids would imitate their heroes.

But I think it's become unwieldy. As a kid, I loved that not only was the Hulk unique (as a hero, I know villains had gamma-radiation origins), but that he had only ONE title per month. Now, who knows how many Hulks are running around?
