For a while there it seemed like every period piece I saw was an exercise in actors playing dress-up with Seventies drag and afro wigs, while saying "groovy" over and over.

My 9 year old and I watched all of "I Love Lucy" and now we're onto "The Honeymooners." He's been enthralled. Except... all the constant smoking freaks him out! ("Don't they know it's dangerous?!")

It's a pet peeve of mine when any modern movie that takes places decades ago has actors constantly lighting up. I love CASINO, but why the f*** do Deniro and Stone have to be smoking in just about every damn scene?

Don:

The Doylist explanation is smoke looks awesome on film.

The Watsonian explanation is people really did smoke a lot back then. I remember visiting my father's government office in the early Eighties and it was a huge open space of desks in rows manned by bureaucrats in crew cuts, skinny black ties and white shirts, and all of them were chain smoking.

Watch some Dick Cavett 1970s talk show videos on YouTube,  or some 1960s and early 70s Johnny Carson clips. It certainly wasn't uncommon for a guest to be smoking during a segment. Times have changed.

Remember smokers on airplanes? What a crazy fad.

The good thing is that gives you a chance to educate your son on how society has changed. After all, they didn't know how dangerous it was to smoke back then, at least not to the degree people now know about smoking.

It was weird to see the old commercials for "The Beverly Hillbillies", where week to week the commercial break featuring members of the cast in character alternated from breakfast cereal to them smoking cigarettes.

Not to mention the Winston commercials on The Flintstones, with Fred, Wilma, and Barney all lighting up. Yeesh.

All I ask, at the very least, for the newly-reacquired Fantastic Four:

Original costumes, or as close an approximation as possible.  That should be Marvel Studios' Step 1.

Then go from there!

(And as for any X-Men reboot:  All 5 original team members, with Professor X.  No Wolverine!  Then go from there.  Just make some decisions right out of the gate that will make fans cheer!)

Shaun B. - including Professor Xavier, there were six original team members. :)

AND NONE OF THEM WERE WOLVERINE.

Actually, I'd be happy to see an "original" X-Men movie, although perhaps without quite so much of the Stan Lee baggage. Jean and Scott pining for each other, sure... but not every thirty-four seconds. :)

All of them are white. Would have to add Storm, which would also add another woman to the team.

Seriously, Disney/Fox/whomever won't want to have deal with complaints about a lack of racial and gender diversity on the team.

Agreed, no Wolverine, add him later.

Might make sense to have the team based in a state other than New York, too.

There’s no way they don’t include Wolverine.

I wouldn't mind seeing Alpha Flight kick off Phase 4. Throw in the Hulk vs Wolverine vs. Wendigo and have Professor X. coming knocking in an after credits scene to recruit them for his school.

Weird thought: I created Alpha Flight when Pierre Trudeau was Prime Minister. Now his son occupies that offtice!

That's what I'd like to see. Unfortunately, there's no way Wolverine would be
excluded.

Very funny, JB. To be honest I really liked Thunderbird and was Not Happy when he was killed off so quickly. (Yes, I know he was created to die.)

I mean he had one of those really, really classic Dave Cockrum costumes!

A thought just hit me tonight...

Hugh Jackman has "officially" retired from the Wolverine role, and most likely would not be part of any Marvel Studios X-MEN reboot... but I'm sure Jackman would love to part of any new Marvel film, and I'm sure they'd love to have him.

So... Hugh Jackman as the new Reed Richards?

after seeing the ads for his new movie "the greatest showman", I could see
Jackman as the Ringmaster.

Sadly, any MCU role he'd play, people would always think `Too bad he's not Wolverine in this'.
