WOW - that two episode premiere BLEW ME AWAY. I'm impressed with the premise of this season.

Holy s#it!   What a wonderful premise for this season!   The effects were amazing.  Pretty much big budget cinema quality.  I had an inkling as to what brought the Coulson Crew into space....(cough..Tha..cough..nos) but it urns out I was wrong.  And I’m glad because what was revelaed is far more intriguing.

I had that thought after the season four ender, but dismissed it almost immediately because the break between the film and TV division seems pretty unbridgeable at this point.  If anything, I'll bet that they put them in the future to keep them out of the way for Infinity War... although the idea of an entire season set in space seems a bit tough to sustain.  Last season's overarching arc with three smaller arcs really worked like gangbusters.

That having been said, this remains my favorite genre show on the air and the premier was excellent, as usual.  They have my complete faith.

Well, for those who don't know, this season will have at least two arcs.

Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb said that this first arc will conclude with the 100th episode - being a significant event plus Coulson and his team should be finding their way back home.

This season looks to be "can't miss" television!

"Can't miss."  Agreed.  I'm even delaying a road trip on Friday night so that my wife and I can watch together.  THAT'S appointment TV.

A side note - I was beyond pumped when the episode opened with "Naive Melody."  It's in my top five favorite songs and it was masterfully deployed, here.

The first thing I thought when I saw the destroyed earth was Thanos won, big time. That would be amazing really. The villain actually wins, and it takes many decades before the heroes somehow make things right again.

I still think Thanos will win in Infinity War and some how when the heroes make it right, it'll be a whole new rebooted MCU. A perfect opportunity to switch out any actors who are ready to move on.

BTW: Anyone know if the Enoch character is an adaptation of anyone from the comics?

There’s no corresponding character in the comics, to my knowledge. I just thought he was a stand-in for one of the Recorders.

Loved the Han-Leia exchange toward the end.

Caught up on this. WOW!  Especially after trudging through Inhumans, I am totally blown away. They've really done it this time. Out the heroes in an impossible situation they can't possibly get out of!  Awesome!

Elements of this season remind me of the ‘old’ Spartacus premium channel series.

The gladiatorial bouts and Quake being called the ‘Destroyer Of Worlds’ recalls Spartacus being known as ‘The Bringer Of Rain’ and Crixus being called ‘The Undefeated Gaul’.

And Kasius reminds me of Batiatus in some ways as the master of the ludus.

Nice AOS directorial debut from Clark Gregg last night.

Agreed.
Also, is it just me, or this arc has a Dr. Who vibe as well?

Two weeks ago they let drop that the ALIEN-like, "roaches" are Vrellnexians. I may have read the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe too much in my late youth, but the image flashed into my mind of the six-limbed, beaked, furred-looking gray creature.

I don't want to read too much into the possibility that these are an independent space-faring intelligent race in the mix -- I'm fairly convinced third-tier characters in the MCU begin with the plot function followed by a search a close enough match among the characters they already own; such as Mantis or Crossbones.
