Two more fairly obvious ones (that somehow slipped my mind):
THE AVENGERS by David Michelinie and John Byrne was surprisingly short for the impact it had. I was 12 when AVENGERS #181 came out (with the iconic Perez cover having Gyrich telling two dozen Avengers and friends he was "firing" most of them and the great fun issue inside with JB inked by Gene Day), but I still remember the whole thing so clearly to this day, and it led right into the whole great (and important) Chthon/"Dark" Scarlet Witch storyline. Sure, Michelinie stayed on and was soon joined by George Perez (for a while) but it sure would have been nice to see JB on the main AVENGERS title longer.
THE SHADOW by Denny O'Neil and Mike Kaluta--was anything ever more perfect than Kaluta drawing the Shadow? And O'Neil got the scripting and the tone down just right too. But they only did five issues together! I also enjoyed the Frank Robbins issues, but, boy, if O'Neil and Kaluta were still working on the book to this day, I'd have bought every issue! (500 instead of 5!)

A lot of good ones above.
Walt Simonson on Fantastic Four is one I'd like to have seen go on a bit longer.
Grant and Zeck on The Punisher - A mini-series and standalone Graphic Novel just isn't enough.

Denny and Neal would certainly lead my list on a lot of characters/books, tho keeping in mind they were very much of their particular times and places. More GREEN LANTERN. A lot more Batman stories.A childhood favorite was the original METAL MEN, including their debut in SHOWCASE. Joe Kubert on HAWKMAN. And even tho he actually did 38 issues (plus annuals), which is half a lifetime by today's standards, I'd have liked to see more of Steve Ditko on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.

To that point, more Ditko on Charlton's Blue Beetle.

Neal Adams on just about every run he did in the 60s and 70s, including Deadman, GL/GA, Batman, The Uncanny X-men, The Inhumans, etc.
Bernie Wrightson's all-too-short 10 issues with Len Wein on SWAMP THING were the high point of the fantasy / horror genre at DC in those years and are still probably my favorites of his entire career.
Good call on Englehart / Rogers... it seems like more issues than that, which means they made their mark.

Chris Claremont and Bob Mcleod - New Mutants only 4 issues, one Annual and a Graphic novel
***
Good shout and the annual was actually way after their run had ended.
For me, it would be JB and Alpha Flight. I know, 28 issues is a good innings but I just felt that this series could have gone so much further (with hints from JB, IIRC, of the team losing their powers).

I'll second Simonson's FF run. I would have loved to have seen more of that!

Would have loved more of Simonson's run on the F.F. also. Another one is wanting to have seen more of Alan Davis on the Fantastic Four.
