Been listening to a lot of Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) this weekend.

Hard to believe they've been around 35+ years. It's also hard to pin them down to one genre. They are unique.

From their official site:

On August 19th, Neil and Chris meet by chance in an electronics shop on the Kings Road. Realizing they have a common interest in dance music, they begin to write together. Initially they call themselves West End; later they come up with the name Pet Shop Boys, a name derived from some friends who work in a pet shop in Ealing. "We thought it sounded like an English rap group"

Great name for a band, I feel.

Here's an official video for "It's A Sin":

Any fans here?

Had a soft spot for the Pet Shop Boys for a long time. Didn't like everything they did but the earlier stuff was pretty good.  YOU WERE ALWAYS ON MY MIND is a particular favourite (especially the intro).

Incidentally, you may not know this Robbie, but Neil Tennant was, for a brief period in the mid seventies, the Editor of Marvel UK!

Yup, he was editor when Captain Britain was first published before going on to Smash Hits.

Was a great fan of PSB in my younger days and saw them live twice. They always put on great theatrical shows. Please and Actually were significant albums of the 90s.

I haven't yet been able to see them live, but still time, I guess. :)

"West End Girls" is one of my favourite songs, not just for PSB, but with music in general.

Funny you posted this. I've been on a PSB
kick for a few weeks now. Love so many
songs, ALWAYS ON MY MIND maybe my favorite
cover of all time. Of the post 80's work,
GO WEST is a great song.

"Always On My Mind" is indeed a great cover, perhaps the greatest cover of all time (I mean that!).

My two favorite songs by them were "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" and "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots Of Money)".

Sadly, I don't think I've heard anything they've done since about 1993 or 1994, though. Their popularity died hard in the U.S. around then, if not before.
