I'm working through TNG with my 11 year old daughter and mostly enjoying it a lot. We're up to season 4 now. Loved the Borg/ Locutus episodes as much as I did when I was younger man but didn't make my daughter wait 3 months for the next season! (I did make her wait a night, though)

Anyway, I didn't recall the episode family very well but I really enjoyed it. It's written by Ronald Moore and you can see some of his interests that he follows up with further in BSG in this episode. I loved the glimpses of Worf's parents and forgot how great they were. Even the small parts with Crusher were decent. A good person-centered human scale episode after the HUGE galactic episodes preceding it.

"Family" is a favorite TNG episode of mine. I agree, Daniel--it made for a very nice counterpoint to "The Best of Both Worlds," especially since Picard was allowed to suffer a touch of post-traumatic stress after his ghastly experience with the Borg. It was fun to watch Patrick Stewart play off of Jeremy Kemp as Picard's even-stiffer older brother.

And, yes, Worf and the Rozhenkos were a lot of fun.

I kind of wish they hadn't needlessly eliminated the rest of Picard's family in GENERATIONS -- offscreen, no less.  A cheap way to temporarily raise the emotional stakes for Picard.

It kind of makes "Family" a little less poignant in retrospect.

Let's all just pretend that Generations didn't exist.
