What more is there left to say?
I'm angry so I would say to US lawmakers, FUCK your prayers and do something practical.
Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Lindsey Graham and so many others offered the usual platitudes about prayers being with the victims. What good are fucking prayers? I'm sorry for the anger - it's not a trait I enjoy - but I would be so tempted to scream in their faces in protest at the victims.
In fact, and maybe this will sound absurd, I find their platitudes insulting. And if I do, then I'm certain the victims' families find them even more insulting. Very insulting. What can be more insulting than men in suits, with power, offering you prayers and platitudes. And talking about 'god' being with them.
Those lawmakers should stay silent. Or simply tweet, "Thoughts with the victims." But thoughts and prayers? No. Because prayers and 'god' are NOT working, nor are they the solution.
I am fed up of seeing this on the news on a regular basis. When the UK had a mass shooting (Scotland, 1996), it hit a lot of people hard. I did not know the victims or their families, but it was a time when I could not help but cry. And we toughened gun laws up. There has been gun crime since, but no mass shootings to my knowledge. I wish the US could act. NRA and GOA be damned!
But I fear the worst: people like Alex Jones will talk about baseball bats and iron rods being used to kill people, there'll be the usual false equivalency with automobile accidents, talk about people rather than guns being the killers - and other crap. I am sick of it. I'm sure many of you are.
Take care, Americans. I know that may be a platitude, too, but it's meant with utmost respect and sincerity.
