At least itís not as bad a failure as fucking Captain Marvel. What a let-down.

That movie was a /HUGE/ failure.

45 million was the expected opening.... Lot of faith there....

And once again, what are you expecting for a moderately budgeted film featuring a less well-known superhero with no big-name movie stars? If they expected a bigger opening, they would have thrown more money at it.

That is why studios greenlight a film, but movies are made by the filmmakers and cast to entertain.

And, didn't Matt R already demonstrate that this film has made money?

Just because you want it to fail doesn't mean it's a failure.

I saw it today and I enjoyed it. It's fun with some heart but definitely not a "kiddie" movie. There are some scenes that caught me off guard.

I didn't need Johns to "fix" the character and his universe

***

It's not a fix. It's an attempt to make the character popular. Granted it turns Billy into a different character. And I don't personally like it. But if it sells more comics then one just has to live with it -- and the SHAZAM! comic is at least clearly aimed at 12 year olds, not 40-somethings like myself.

Local theater in my hometown has a double-bill of Shazam and Captain Marvel.  Made me laugh.

Saw Shazam on Tuesday night bargain matinee. It was a lot more fun than Captain Marvel was. Didn't really care for them making Sivana into basically Black Adam, but nothing's perfect. My kid liked it a lot too.

I saw it last Friday. Overall I liked it a lot. It's a bright, fun corner in what I think is a very dark, gloomy, depressing DC Movie Universe. I thought the final scene in the movie (before the credits) was great.

I've just seen it. Didn't like it. In his first scene, Billy disqualifies himself from what the wizard seeks. Once he gets his powers, he steals, which should disqualify him; he's cowardly. I don't know what the recent comics are like, but this film misses the intent of the original comics by a LONGSHOT.

The film takes it's cues from the New52 version of the character.

The whole point of any movie is to make money....that is
why they are made.
+++++++++
for the studio I'm sure it's the only reason. Movies can be art and I'm sure
SOME people involved are concerned with making a "good" film although
money is always nice. The fact that Transformers makes more money than any
Bergman film does not make transformers better. More lucrative certainly.

My decision to not see the DC movies in theaters has paid off nicely. Saw this last night as a $1.90 DVD rental from Red Box. I'd have disliked it a lot more if I had dropped $20+ at a theater. With the continuing crap epitomized in the MCU Spider-Boy films, I may do the same for the upcoming MCU phase.

Sad that those of us who love the real source material are now expecting to be disappointed and pissed off by casting and story issues.

SHAZAM is actually really faithful to the real source material. Itís just that the real source material is the New 52 Shazam comic.
