Thought this might be fun (and could only find one thread similar to this and it was over ten years ago), if you were writing the Avengers, who all would you have on the team? What is your idea of the perfect Avengers roster?

The only rule is don't pick more than ten members. You can have less members than that, but I didn't want to get all Henry Peter Gyrich and just limit the roster to 7, but anything larger than 10 just seems unwieldy. If you want to explain your choices that's fine, but you obviously don't have to. They can be characters from any era too, not just current Marvel as I'm not reading current Marvel and I doubt that many folks here are either.

Here are my choices:

Captain America
Iron Man
Thor
Wasp
Yellowjacket
Scarlet Witch
Vision
Hawkeye
Wonder Man
Beast

I obviously have a huge affinity for the Michelinie/Byrne era of Avengers, but my first eight choices I consider essential Avengers. The Wonder Man and Beast choices stem from the fact that I think their friendship really added something special to the Avengers that it hasn't had before or since, even though power wise, you don't really need Wonder Man on the team if you have Thor.

I'm primarily basing this on personalities, not powers.

Captain America
Thor
Wasp
Ant-Man (Hank -- he can be Giant-Man too, he has the ability to do so)
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch
Vision
Falcon
Hawkeye
Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers)

Honorary Mention: Firebird. I liked her as a West Coast Avenger. I don't know if much has been done with her since.

I also really liked what JB did with U.S. Agent, but having him on the same team as Cap is redundant (despite the personality differences).

I have to note that you didn't specify if they had to actually be Avengers or not. However, a 10 team should be enough to handle most issues, so I'll go with...

Binary
Black Panther
Captain America
Human Torch (the origianl)
Iron Man
Scarlet Witch
Vision
Wasp
Wonder Man
Yellowjacket

It seems to me a fairly good mix of powerhouses, melee specialists, subtle and stealthy, human, non-humans, natural powers and artificial powers, leadership, and a good enough arrangement to split in two with still pretty much the above conditions. N.B. - I was quite specific about Binary as opposed to Ms. Marvel, Warbird, or Captain Marvel, because that kind of power is nice to have on the team.

Eric, they don't have to have been Avengers before, though I assume most people will pick heroes that have been on the roster before, it's not a requirement by any means. This is basically anyone you want from the Marvel universe on your Avengers team.

Hmmm...

Good question;

Captain America- leadership, tactician.
Captain Marvel(Rambeau)- Speed!!
Iron Man- Tech, power.
Wonder Man (2nd uniform)- Strength.
Wasp- Specialist (mini)
Hawkeye- Specialist (marksman) I couldn't do it to him again.
Vision- Analyst, objective (sweet powers too).
Scarlet Witch- Wildcard.

I really wanted to include Black Panther too as he's one of my favorite Avengers, but I didn't want to sacrifice the buddy dynamics of Beast and Wonder Man. Maybe I should've said 11. :D

Since the original Avengers had five members, I'm going to pick five:

Captain America
Namor
Hercules
Iron Man
Thor

Woe betide anyone insane enough to fight those!

I enjoyed seeing Namor and Hercules in the team (80s, right?). Cap, Iron Man and Thor are the "holy trinity" of the Avengers so it felt right to include them.

Between my five picks, there's enough brain and brawn to tackle any threat, I feel. And Stark provides the science speciality.

Hawkeye
Cap
Iron Man
Wasp
Thor
She-Hulk

Just can't move away from my first regular issue line-up.

I also just realized that my five choices involve a lot of ego. With Namor, Hercules, Thor and Iron Man on the same team, well Cap would have to mediate between four bickering egos. ;-)

I've been pleased by all sorts of combinations over the years, but if I really had to nail down my "if I could only have one line-up, it would be...", then:

Captain America
Thor
Iron Man
Wasp
Vision
Scarlet Witch
Hawkeye
