Not sure how many around here are still watching.

I thought I would chime in to say JB should be getting one of those residual checks from DC for using his version of Bloodsport on the first episode.

I'm still watching. I noticed they used the name Bloodsport as well, but I kept waiting to see the ability to port a weapon to his hands. I always thought that was a cool power.

The opening logo looks a little darker, as did the first scene. For a moment, I thought they had adapted this Supergirl to the one brought back in the... oh, who the hell knows which iteration of the DCU? The one with the all-black outfit. Which, it appears, was a little close to her character in this episode.

In Kara's dreams, is that a different actress playing Allura? I didn't look it up, but she looks a bit different.

Alex and Maggie - OKAY, OKAY, WE GET IT ALREADY. They're an unusual couple, they have unusual issues, things aren't all Rodgers and Hammerstein for them. Must every screen encounter be a two hour soap opera crammed into three minutes? Couldn't we see them together and happy and in love?

Supergirl is going all "Kryptonian" on us... I guess because she lost Mon-El. But Mon-El loved Kara Zor-El - and while that is also Kara Danvers, it seems as if this dichotomy was a little forced. Supergirl's support system has, for the greatest part, seemed irrelevant to what she's wearing... except, perhaps, for Cat (and even then, it went to both character aspects.) Maybe I just wasn't so happy with the quick resolution of a deep seated issue... she'd been like this for six months, remember.

Also, if I were J'onn or James (sigh...), after a month of this, I would have asked Clark to have a talk with her. And I suppose that possibly he did, but it should have been noted.

It's a shame the actress playing Lena couldn't decide on an accent.

Morgan Edge immediately implies Darkseid to me. And whatever happened to Max Lord? Getting so you can't keep your greed capitalist supermoguls straight any more...

And deus-ex-machiina woman with her adorable daughter just happens to show up at the Girl of Steel Day. I would far have preferred to see a few people trying to help her save her daughter... I can't believe that EVERYONE was so panicked and running away. The same outcome could have occurred, and an observer to this might have been a good hook for later in the season.

In any case... an unkonwn sister? Kidnapped and sent to Earth by the "dark Kryptonians"? How many damned rockets left Krypton ANYHOW? :)

Could this be Power Girl? Or could her adorable daughter have super powers as well? In the comics, I only remember one story where a Kryptonian offspring under normal circumstances didn't have super powers (Kal-El II, if you're interested.)

And a happy ending, of course. As my wife said, "How fortunate that they had an extra shot at the table."

This seemed a shaky start to a new season. I was hoping for a more solid episode, but I guess it gives room to expand on stories... few of which I actually want to see more of, but that's how it goes. But heavens, how I hope that this doesn't turn into "Supergirl's Sister, Alex Danvers."

I, for one, am happy the moody Kara/Supergirl only lasted 1 episode.

I couldn't tell either if that was the same Alura, but I looked it up and they did recast her with an actress from Smallville.

Laura Benanti is signed to do a Broadway show (plus she recently had a baby), so they recast Alura with Erica Durance, who was Lois Lane on SMALLVILLE.

Bloodsport was pretty much a generic, bald, African-American merc. They used his code-name and real name, but other than him not being inured or even knocked out when Kara sent him flying 100 yards from the tractor trailer onto an SUV, there was nothing about him that stood out.

At the end of last season, we saw another ship launched from Krypton, and they showed it under the water this episode. Could the mystery woman be the occupant of that ship? (But I thought that scene last season had evil conotations.)

It's been revealed that actor Jesse Rath has been cast as Brainiac 5. It's set to be a recurring role and points to the Legion of Super-Heroes showing up in National City somewhere down the line.

For now, though, only Brainiac 5 travels back from the 31st Century to help the Girl of Steel deal with Reign.

Well, with the fact that the 31st century has weather control technology, it seems rather natural. :)

I'm really hoping that Alex and Maggie break up. The actors really don't have great chemistry together. Their relationship is the most boring part of the show, and I saw what happened last week coming a mile away.

And I hope James has a new helmet if/when he becomes Guardian again, rather than just adding to the existing one. The helmet design is the weakest part of his costume, and just covering his eyes won't fix it.

It was mentioned earlier in the thread that the actress playing Maggie is being downgraded to 'recurring', which sounds like a big clue about the relationship.

I swear (but can't prove) they decided to axe the Alex/Maggie relationship before last season finished. I was actually surprised Maggie returned this season but looks like they are still heading for a breakup.

I liked Alex way more before she came out. After she came out her scenes were about her relationship.....yawn. Before, she was a bad-ass and taking names....much more interesting in a comic book show.

Yeah, they need to move on from it. There have been signs in the previous two episodes(I haven't seen tonight's) of Maggie reasserting herself on and off the job. Kind of like how they finally gave J'onn some significant screen time and character development, and actually using his powers again.

By all accounts, Floriana Lima had only wanted to do a year on the show for a smaller role, and the writers were making her character more prominent in the hopes that she would stick around.

I don't mind how they handled the Alex/Maggie relationship, but I could do with fewer scenes of Chyler Leigh crying.

From last night's episode, where they apparently wrapped it up... there was something like a ten minute scene with Alex and Maggie discussing their relationship. I don't know exactly how long it was because I fast forwarded through it, with my wife's grateful approval.

I know it's the CW, but for mercy's sake, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. And undoubtedly, the next three or four episodes will have Alex mourning her lost relationship to overexcess.

Believe it or not, there was actually a story around the Alex storyline, and I thought it was pretty good. I didn't think that enough lead to chase off the Daxamites would cause human harm - as they established in the episode and again in last night's episode - but it was an interesting and possible premise. And I REALLY like Kara as Batgirl... using detective skills instead of super powers to figure out the problem and find out what was going on.

I did have a little problem with Supergirl not being able to hold up two halves of the plane when she had just been lifting the whole thing from inside, but okay. I guess they have to establish limits for her.

I don't know if I'm getting tired of the suddenly-best-friends status of Samantha, but I guess the show needs us to invest in her before she becomes a super villain. Sigh...

I thought it was being able to carry something you can get a steady grip on vs trying to carry two things that you can only get a hold on by the tips of your fingers. Having tried and failed to do the latter on several occasions, I immediately understood Supergirl’s predicament.

I definitely thought it was a grip issue, not a strength one.

I really enjoyed the latest episode, with the teen Kara and Alex trying to solve a murder.  How sad is it though that their (possibly) best episode mostly ignored the entire regular cast and setting?

The episode was really an homage to Smallville. And a really good one, in my opinion! (Note the references to Chloe Sullivan, and apparently using the same school building for the exterior shots.)

I've seen some chatter online that this episode was done because Melissa Benoist and Chyler Leigh were getting really stretched out in time commitments for the "Crisis on Earth-X" crossover, so a sort of fill-in episode satisfied the gap. And the two substitute actresses playing the younger versions of Kara and Alex were excellent! They not only resembled the main characters physically, but got their mannerisms perfectly down pat.

  1. Yeah, the series has recently had episodes where they basically gave J'onn, and now Kara and Alex, a 'week off', because all of those actors have significant screentime in the crossover

Argh! On tonight's episode, Mon-El returns from the future and introduces Supergirl to his wife--a black-haired Imra Ardeen (Saturn Girl). What the heck--?!? At this point, I think Berlanti just likes messing with the fans.

Up to now, I've tried to cut these producers (TV and movies) some slack because I know some things just don't translate to screen, but to go out of your way to do something arbitrary tells me they enjoy sticking it to us.

I actually think the writers found a clever (and emotional) way to introduce the characters the Legion of Super-Heroes. (Irma's hair color isn't a deal breaker for me.)

I'm curious enough to see how this all plays out this season as they introduce Brainiac 5 and other members.

Monday and Tuesday nights are the annual CW DC four-show crossover (starting with Supergirl tonight). Crisis on Earth X.
