Apparently, Jean Grey is returning to Marvel in a 5-issue mini-series by writer Matthew Rosenberg.

Like I've said, if they gave me the keys to the kingdom, the first thing I'd do is forbid any reference to any story that was more than two years old, origins excluded.

(And, yes, I did stories that reference events a lot more than two years old. There's a learning process.)

Well, at least it's a well-respected, established writer doing something as important as this.

No, I've never heard of him either.

This does not appeal to me.

I think there's going to the well once too often...and then there's fucking jumping in the well and making it your home. And never leaving the damn well!

As I've said in countless topics, there are so many FRESH things I'd like to see. I'd love to see the X-Men take on Dr. Octopus; I'd love to see the original X-Men take on the Sinister Six; and I'd love to see Professor X against the likes of Nightmare or Dormammu. All fresh, new encounters which, whilst not for everyone, are appealing to me.

Surely one can just go and read the original.

Instead of Jean getting tortured on an asteroid for all of eternity, we end up getting tortured by her. JB, I hope you and Chris are getting royalties overtime they drag her out of the grave and repeat the exact same story you two told 35 years ago.

Instead of bringing back something from 37 years ago, how about creating the next new great character-saga that people will be talking about in 2054?

The rumor is that Marvel's executives are opposed to creating any new mutant characters. Fox would automatically have the movie rights to such characters. If that is true, then wouldn't this embargo extend to new concepts and stories? This new Phoenix story will probably be dull by design.

Marvel doesn't need to create more mutant characters... there's plenty... they just need to write GOOD STORIES and stop rehashing everything from their past.

Jean coming back to life loses its impact somewhat when they already have a Jean Grey running around in their comics.

From the article: "We're going for that perfect balance of universe shaking epic and intimate personal drama that only the X-Men ever truly achieve"

Sounds like a description better-suited to the FF.

What they should have said:

""We're going for that perfect balance of universe shaking epic and intimate personal drama that only Chris Claremont and John Byrne ever truly achieve"
