So much for the element of surprise...even someone who does not read Internet news months ahead will be tipped off to her return, oh, by the FRIGGIN' TITLE!!

or simple truth in advertising. They're clearly not trying to make it a surprise.

Regarding Marvel Legacy,i noticed that a lot of the
titles that have reverted back to something resembling
their original numbering are only a few months away from
landmark issues...cynical cash-in?

IRL context: this is pathetic. X-Men seems to have been falling off the table recently ANYHOW, so I guess this is the shot in the arm they think will make writers and artists do better X-Men comics, and less editorial interference (and STUDIO interference) after the five issue mini. I wonder how many current readers - or NEW readers, which they need desperately - are aware of the original Phoenix saga. Yeah, we old farts from thirty-odd years ago who read and loved the story - but what about new readers? Even Chris Claremont couldn't continue to reference Phoenix THAT often.

MU context: Phoenix is back? Phoenix is the harbinger of destruction. To control its impulses for any length of time is impossible. And this time, the Phoenix should probably be treated the same as Galactus - all guns firing, every attack both gross and subtle, and we'll probably need help from the Watcher on how to defeat it ANYHOW. Phoenix may not be all powerful, but it devours planets to survive. Whether or not it's evil, it will always revert to type, and will always become the destroyer. The Shi'ar knew that they might well have to destroy the Milky Way to save the universe from Phoenix... how could it be any different this time?

P.S. I see that Phoenix has BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE? How could that work? What happens when it has to feed again?!?

And a five issue series with FIVE DIFFERENT ARTISTS. Because that'll look really good and consistent. I mean, I've seen that some of these clowns can't get two books drawn in half a year... but that doesn't mean go to multiple artists. It means HIRE ARTISTS WHO ARE FASTER. Stars above, what a mound of dung.

Here's a thought.

Marvel are not creating new mutants so Fox can't have them. Point 1 is that most of the time the Fox derivatives are just that - derivatives rather than the actual character.

Point 2 is this:
Fox seem to get not just the characters, but the stories as well - again, they give us derivatives but they are clearly based on the stories.
Is that why the X-universe has become so dull over the last two decades?

There's no questioning that the Death of Phoenix was, in its day, an important story. It's not even egotistical for me to say so. It shook things up in a big way.

Unfortunately, in large part because Chris Would Not Let It Go, it became a point that fans and subsequent writers could not leave alone.* I tried to turn down the fervor by restoring the real Jean Grey, in FF, but it seems that some people will forever want to include themselves in that Moment of comic history -- even 37 years later.

(Think about that for a moment. A baby born on the day X-MEN 137 hit the stands is now thirty-seven years old! Is there any story in the whole history of the industry that has been dragged out for so long, and spread so thin?)

Back to my Two Year Rule!

––––––––––––––––

* I even slipped Phoenix into HIDDEN YEARS, tho I confess that was really all about me being "shocking".

My feeling is that the X-Men got dull when Claremont left / was forced out and the editors took over the direction of the X-books.  Perhaps one of the core problems of Marvel is that they are such an editor-driven company. The talent is there just to execute the views and whims of the editors and execs.

Here`s a thing about `writing for the trade`...how about
drawing for the trade too? By that i mean one artist for
each story run wether it be 2,5 or 6 issues?
