Thanks, Brian!
I saw they also did an interview with Syfy Wire, but I haven't been able to find it.

Looking around the web, I see lots of people had their pictures taken with the Kevin Smith cardboard cutout again.

Boy, that's some pitiful transcription in that Comicbeat piece!

I was able to meet John and he signed my Star Trek book, FF artist edition and a Dark Phoenix TPB I've had since the '80s and carried all through art school.
Thanks for doing this John it means the world to me!

The panel was like watching two friends have a casual conversation. The hour went by quickly and I left learning quite a few things I never knew.
At the signing folks in line were passionately discussing the one non-IDW item they wanted to get signed. It felt like most folks had selected an item that held a significant personal connection. There were clearly some folks getting an issue of X-Men signed just to increase its value, but they appeared to be in the minority.
I chose the Phoenix - The Untold Story comic to get signed. I recall my 12 year old self surprised by the content and interview in the book when it came out. It was my first 'behind the scenes' peak into Marvel and it really opened my eyes to how comic stories are crafted. Plus the cover rocks!

O, for f**k sake!!!!This from the CBR article on the panel: "Byrne met [Kirby] twice, both times at San Diego Comic-Con, and he recalled how nervous he was the first time. Byrne had just started drawing Captain America for Marvel, and he was so effusive in praising Kirby, he never really heard what the King said back to him." NOT what I said. What I SAID was that I was so overwhelmed and tongue-tied I was barely able to ask Kirby for advice on how to handle Cap, and I was so blown away at meeting him I literally do not remember what he said! (Walt described a similar experience from his own first meeting.) THIS is why I generally resist interviews that require transcription. All that's needed to corrupt what I say is someone who's not really paying attention.

JB: This from the CBR article on the panel: "Byrne met [Kirby] twice, both times at San Diego Comic-Con, and he recalled how nervous he was the first time. Byrne had just started drawing Captain America for Marvel, and he was so effusive in praising Kirby, he never really heard what the King said back to him."
************************************************************ * Amateurs.
"Byrne, upon first meeting Kirby, asked his advice on handling Captain America. When Kirby took the time to answer, Byrne wasn't even paying attention. It is unknown how Kirby felt about this encounter, all we do know is that Kirby would meet with JB only once more during his life. After that, no more."
This is exactly the kind of demonstration I do to those that quote political garbage to me. It's ridiculously easy to twist just about anything someone says. If you can't find an unedited transcript of someone saying something, within context, you can't be certain you are getting the correct meaning. And once the lie is out there, it is virtually impossible to correct it. I miss the days when organizations were more concerned with being correct rather than fast in their reporting.
