In later years, Berman acknowledged that he' was often told that his contemporary, Bob Newhart, 'stole' Berman's 'telephone' act, although Newhart pointed out that 'solo comedian carrying on half of a phome conversation' was an idea that just about predated both Newhart and Berman.
I'm only really familiar with Berman through his 'Twilight Zone' appearance, in which a guy learns some concentration technique to 'silence' sounds that bother him (primarily, the voic of his nagging wife')...with rather predictable 'TZ' complications in the end. I also caught him in one or two sitcom appearances, in which he played 'odd little old men', and it didn't seem like he needed to 'act' much to pull it off.

He was brilliant as Larry David's father on "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Iím one of the few in my circle of friends to be familiar with his comedy, thanks to old comedy albums.

RIP
