Definitely saddened by this.  "Gentle on My Mind" and "Southern Nights" are favorites of mine.

One of the earliest singers whose name I knew! Loved Rhinestone Cowboy when I was rather young.

One of a dozen or so country stars who truly crossed over into the mainstream in my lifetime, a pretty select group.  The documentary about his Alzheimers battle was touching and sad.

I definitely remember "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Southern Nights" being all over the radio in the mid-/late-'70s... though I confess I don't know too many more of his songs than that.  Looks like I need to add a "best of" disc to my collection.  He certainly was a popular artist for about 50 years straight.

RIP
