1960s:
Superman: Rock Hudson
Green Lantern: Paul Newman (said to have been Gil Kane's inspiration for Hal Jordan)
Spider-Man: Bobby Sherman (He'd have to geek out a bit to shed his teen idol image but he did play a shy stutterer in "Here Come the Brides")
Dr. Strange: Leonard Nimoy
Magneto: Christopher Lee
Prof. X: Peter Cushing

1970s:
Green Lantern: Robert Urich
Green Arrow: David Soul
Black Canary: Laurette Spang
(Since those three were TV stars, perhaps it would be for a GL-GA TV series.)
Batman: Warren Beatty
The Flash: Jon Voight
Dr. Strange: Frank Langella (He was Dracula and Zorro in two 70s movies.)

1990s:
Superman: Brendan Fraser (Think of him in "George of the Jungle" but played straighter for Superman and in "Blast from the Past" for Clark Kent.)

Hmm. A lot of the best suggestions seem to have been picked but I do know when I've tried to describe whom my ideal casting would have been for the Janet Van Dyne Wasp, a 70es era Sally Field always springs to mind as being my first choice.

I also would have liked 70es Charlton Heston as Nick Fury. (And I was thinking that long before Cameron sort of had him play a version of Fury in True Lies.)

From the 80es I would have liked Heather Langenkamp, (from the original Nightmare in Elm Street) as Kitty Pryde. And maybe even Timothy Dalton as Tony Stark

I have trouble with the 60es, perhaps because I wasn't around then. I was going to say a young Montgomery Clift for Peter Parker, but then I realised he would have been much too old by the 60es, (Not to mention unfortunately deceased by 66.)
Elizabeth Montgomery comes to mind for Susan Richards. Though I do like Vishard's suggestion of Jane Fonda as well.

Prof. X: Peter Cushing

Any chance we might expunge Bryan Singer and remember that Charles Xavier is the scion of a old BOSTON family?

Yeah, you're right. But I loved the idea of Christopher Lee as Magneto (though Christopher Plummer is great, too) and couldn't resist pairing him with Cushing yet again.
Jason, I love the idea of Timothy Dalton as Tony Stark. I know he has the British accent but I think it could be explained by saying his parents sent him to boarding school in England. They were well to do, after all.
Any ideas for past actors who could play Wolverine?

Stallone, circa 1980-82, as Wolverine. ;-)

Also in the iron man book of 2014 he went to college in England. Dalton aslo does a great american accent.

Sean Connery as Banshee? Isn't there a good Spaniard he can play? Christopher Lambert needs to be banshee.

Thanks! Ever since I saw the Rocketeer, I've always liked the idea.

Wolverine? Hmm...It's a little obvious, given how he was at one point genuinely considered for the part, but Mel Gibson circa 1989 around the time of Lethal Weapon 2 I think might have been a fun take on Logan.

Richard Harris would have made a good Joker in the 60`s
Steve Guttenberg a decent 70`s Peter Parker.
Pierce Brosnan a 90`s Reed Richards(See Mars Attacks)
Deanna Lund a 60`s Jean Grey
