Well, at least it wasn't a speedster villain.

I hope they address his 'resurrection'... unless this is an alternate earth Ralph. http://flashtvnews.com/harrison-wells-dropped-a-lot-of-dc-co mics-names-tonight/17975

He may have been presumed dead at that point.  Besides, that was Eobard Thawne/Harrison Wells who mentioned it.  So who knows...?

While I'm pleased that they are changing things up and having a main villain for the season that isn't a speedster, I can't say that I like the idea of bringing Ralph Dibney into the show as I never liked the character.

I can't get into this series. I'm not saying it's objectively bad, particularly if you've never read THE FLASH. But the "Barry Allen" that Grant Gustin is playing has a personality far more like Wally West than the Barry I know from the comics. And "race-swapping," as was done here in the case of Iris West, will never sit well with me, for reasons that JB has eloquently laid out.

This year's CW superhero crossover has a title - "Crisis On Earth-X."

As you can see on the poster (by artist Phil Jimenez) the heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl will clash with some mysterious villains from a different Earth. We'll see an evil Supergirl and Green Arrow joined by what appears to be the Reverse-Flash and Dark Archer.

There's also a first look at new Legends of Tomorrow additions The Ray and Zari, plus we have confirmation of Caitlin Snow as Killer Frost.

-C!

I just realized something in seeing that poster again...  They ruin the end of last season's and the beginning of this season's Arrow by revealing who survived.

As much as I did enjoy last night's season premiere, it seemed a little flat in spots.  And the "big reveal" in the end as who the villain of the year will be, which we all already know, was fairly "meh, whatever".  He actually looked kind of silly.

Ah well, on the plus side, it could get better!

Sure it will get better! Next week, we get a Silver Age-y Flash running around in a fat suit! Looking forward to it.

At some point last season, LEGENDS OF TOMORROW became my favorite Arrowverse show because it just embraced the silliness of its concept and focused on being fun. With a few notable exceptions (the musical episode and the Gorilla City arc), I think THE FLASH turned up the angst and lost some of the fun and optimism that made the first season so good. Hopefully it gets back to that this season.

Andrew, first thing I thought of when seeing that trailer was this:

Heh.

For those that haven't seen it, here is the trailer:

I didn't like the premier at all.
Didn't notice what was supposed to be
"new" about the costume and have no idea
who the villain at the end was supposed to
be.

The show has always been terrible at the
sci-fi aspects, and this episode's techno-
babble explanation as to how to free Barry
from the speedforce was impossible to
follow. It made no sense whatsoever and I
don't even know what they were trying to
offer as an explanation.

Techno-babble should at least sound
logical. When Star trek offers up a "re-
route all power to the shields" line,
there's a ring of logic or understanding
to it.
Flash offered up: "send this ball into the
speedforce to trick the speedforce into
thinking the ball is Barry." With no
explanation or as to how this could work
or why, other than "Cisco's figured this
out".

Final sin of the shitty episode: butcher
the classic Bill Bixby line from the
Incredible Hulk tv show. (A show that was
far superior to this crap)

There were quite a few things I didn't like, only one of which showed any possibility of resolution (and another possibly hinted at a resolution.)

"Team Kid Flash"? "Team Vibe"? Wow, Cisco sure has adapted to his role as a super hero pretty well.

Iris would have adapted and matured a little bit after what happened*, but she really seemed to be a little too bossy, blouse unbuttoned too far kind of character. I mean, she's got to have SOMETHING to do... but she just seemed too pushy for what her character was.
*Isn't it nice that she loved Barry so much that she DIDN'T go into the Speed Force with him?

On the same token, I think Joe West was tremendously underused in this episode, in a situation where an older and calmer head could really have been sort of in charge.

The Samuroids. The Samuroids. In the comics, this was a crappy two part story. Still, it was kind of a nice homage to the Ross Andru cover of Flash #181... which needed no revisiting, but whatever.

Flash sure seemed to recover from his delirium really quickly. Just needed to see Lois- er, Iris in danger and bang. However, this might be a story that's revisited a little later. Still, at least those weren't Kree symbols he was drawing... :)

And Caitlin. She seemed pretty willing to just step back into her old role... but she was a touch grungier (well, okay) and, as we saw, she's setting up a story line for this season. It IS six months since she walked away... I am interested in seeing how this resolves, but I'm hoping it's not very soap opera driven.

Anybody see a Harrison Wells? Anyone? I didn't, but I might have blinked...

Not the best episode, and it's a little distressing that even after six months, Team Flash seemed quite so rudderless. I don't think of Barry as being the motivating organizer, but perhaps he is, in truth.

I love "The Flash" and am giving this a lot of leeway... but I'm also hoping for a little tighter story as the season progresses.

Didn't like the villain reveal at the end. Looked like a cross between Metron and the original Robocop without his helmet, NOT anything like the character it's supposed to be.

Is anything different about Barry's new costume, besides the red being a brighter shade?

About the costume,  I think the yellow belt is also new for the TV suit.

Boy can I see the guys at DC having a lot of fun with that title from Flash #181.
Unless of course you had been a victim of such an attack.

The villain reveal at the end was The Thinker.

"I'm thinking."

Also, Abra Kadabra namechecked DeVoe last season.

Doug, I could see the follow up title for Flash #182 (had it been continued from there): "H... as in Hero... and Preparation H!"
