The announcement yesterday of todayís trailer release had me pretty stoked, but the trailer itself left me feeling underwhelmed.

While the trailer didn't live up to the hype in my opinion, it still hit a nerve in me. The slow AVENGERS' theme is amazing. Thanos looks, despite having a better CG face than Superman, pretty weird without his armor.

I really hope Marvel plans to introduce Warlock before this Thanos saga is done. Looking forward to an extended trailer in a few months for a better grasp of how epic this film will be.

-C!

James Gunn says to not look for Adam Warlock until AFTER Guardians Vol. 3.

And he will not be appearing in Avengers 3 and 4.

Can't lie:  Yet-another generic, giant sky-hole; yet-another generic CGI horde army; and Thanos looking like a generic, intergalactic space-bouncer are my only main complaints.

But everything look else looks stellar.  Feels like they're really going for some (super) human drama in this one.

10 years in the making.  Unreal!

Have to agree with Thad that I found this underwhelming. Sometimes less really is more. And this is just... more, more and more. Blonde Black Widow and non-traditional Spider-Man costume seem like missteps.

Of course this is all caveated with this is a teaser. The movie will live or die on its story, pacing and character beats, and a teaser can only provides sketch-lines.

I am assuming maybe there is some deal with Netflix, for example, that figures into things. These legal things are tricky. You may be absolutely correct in that Marvel wouldn't give any control away, yet Disney still farmed out publishing rights to its characters to BOOM! comics even though Disney owns Marvel Comics. I also understand that the Marvel TV team is distinct from the film studio people, so are considered different operations within the overall company.

******

I remember reading before the first season of DAREDEVIL came out that all the actors in the Netflix shows signed contracts that contained stuff in them that said they had to be available to Marvel if it was decided they wanted to use the characters in any films.

I think the main reason they may not show up is that the TV and Movie divisions just donít get along very well.

My question: once the MCU is done with Thanos, who else is there for the Avengers or anyone else to fight who counts as a world-threatening villain?

Can't use Doctor Doom, Magneto, Galactus (yes, not really a villain), the Skrulls (right?)...

Neither Graviton nor Count Nefaria are very interesting (everyone would laugh at "Nefaria" anyway). The High Evolutionary, perhaps? Kang seems like an obvious choice. (Bring in Immortus, too!)

I'd love to see a version of the Korvac Saga. Changes would have to be made, of course. I doubt Korvac would be from 3007 A.D. in a movie version. But he's incredibly powerful and his personality is very, very different from that of Thanos.

Skrulls are now on the table. The
prevailing rumors about Avengers 4 is that
it will either continue and finish the
Thanos storyline or it will be the MCU
version of Secret Invasion.

Of all the bloated epic crossovers Marvel
Comics has done in the last ten years,
Secret Invasion, at its core, I think,
makes for the best story idea. Imo, the
Avengers:EMH animated series executed the
story better than the comics. I think it
would be a cool story to do on through big
screen.

If the rumours are true, the Fox deal is looking like it may be back on. Galactus May be back in after that

Is AVENGERS 4 still slated for 2019? If so, being only a year after INFINITY WAR would suggest they are being filmed together, and likely would be a connected storyline, right?

I wonder how soon the MCU will actually be done with Thanos. It would make sense for him to die in AVENGERS 4, but he's the chief antagonist of  half the cast of GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY (not to mention Adam Warlock), and really ought to be the villain for VOL. 3, which won't be out until sometime in the 2020's.

óó

The Skrulls are available to both Fox and Marvel Studios, but certain Skrulls, like the Super-Skrull, are Fox only.

Then I'll have to disagree with both of you.  I thought it was fantastic. It's everything I'd want in a trailer and then some.  It got my 8 year old self excited in a way that no trailer for JL ever did.  THAT'S an underwhelming trailer(s).  For my money, this one is not.  At all.  On any level.

Yes.  The two were filmed back-to-back and thus are absolutely connected.  I think we'll get Thanos winning by the end of AVENGERS 3 and then a massive teamup to defeat him in AVENGERS 4. Whatever the case, A3 will end on a massive cliffhanger.

Exactly how I felt. I still haven't got around to seeing JL and, whilst I will, nothing about that I have seen about it has made me go out of my way to do so. This trailer, on the other hand has got me so excited!

(As an aside though, I'm not sure about the Spider-Man suit featured. I know him sticking to one outfit in the comics has long since passed, I would like to see him wear the classic costume in the films.)

I agree with your prediction, Matt. I wonder if Captain/Ms. Marvel being introduced between them means sheíll be a BIG part in the eventual turnaround towards defeating Thanos.

I've liked the Avengers theme tune since the first movie. I particularly like the version in this ad and will have to try to hunt it down

Or...

...

A version of the Kree-Skrull War? (minus Rick Jones, of course)

If it was done well the grin on my face would never stop.

Who can the Avengers fight?

Kang, as noted.
Hercules (as manipulated by Ares), leading to an Avengers vs. Olympians battle (and a new powerhouse for the Avengers that isn't Thor or the Hulk.).
The Zodiac Gang.
The Squadron Sinister (wouldn't the DC lawyers just LOVE that one?!?)
The High Evolutionary.
Zemo and the Masters of Evil, including Wonder Man.

Of course, despite every comic book movie tradition ever used, they might create a NEW villain / group.

With Zemo still alive this could still happen, with him looking more like his comic counterpart. Indeed, I like the idea of the MoE making an appearance - there has been a lack of supervillain teams in the MCU film and.

And, for a wild idea, how about the Avengers straying into Canadian territories and being confronted by Alpha Flight?

I am sure I read somewhere they were the villains of the Captain Marvel film.

Does Marvel Studios own the rights to Alpha Flight, or would FOX own the rights because Alpha Flight started in "The Uncanny X-Men"?

Edited to note:

The rights issues can really get mixed up! Marvel and FOX both hold rights to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, yet James Gunn said Marvel couldn't used Kang because, as Rama Tut, Kang first appeared in "The Fantastic Four" comic (though that was a retcon, making Kang be Rama Tut, I believe). Meanwhile, Ronan The Accuser is under Marvel's rights, even though he really did first appear in "The Fantastic Four" comic book.

Ugh!!

Disney is reportedly VERY close to buying
Fox (everything but news and sports).

Kang, Galactus, Super Skrull, Silver Surfer, Uatu and some guy named Dr. Doom are all potentially on the table!
