I wonder if the art was originally used for the Marvel Role-playing game? There are some JB covers to game manuals.

Eric: Tracking down a JB image of Dr. Doom with no cape should be fairly simple. Although, given the number of Doom images WITH a cape, why go this route? Could this be cobbled together by various images by "art staff"?
----
The FF drawing doesn't look cobbled together to me. I guess John would know...

That's an interesting guess, Matt. The art on those old game covers had a pretty specific shape... maybe they cropped or added on to the art?
Beats me!

I think the only Marvel Superheroes Roleplaying Game supplement for the Fantastic Four was "Murderworld", showing here:

I remember seeing that cover as a kid and wishing John would actually do that story in a comic.

Eh? This is Kristoff-Doom, who didn't wear a cape, not Victor Von Doom.

Nathan, it's one of many Byrne covers/art pieces that I would LOVE to have seen the story represented there. This one got far enough to be professionally released. The idea of the FF in Murderworld, maybe fighting roboticized version of other FF members, thrills me.

When I did that RPG cover, no one told me they were going to crop the bejezuz out of my art. If I'd known, I would have had Reed leaning the other way!
