I sure would have prefered this version!

Dafoe didn't even need a mask. He has the kind of features where a layer of green makeup would have been enough.

Great point, David. His face really has those long pointy angular features of the Goblin mask.

Sidebar: One of the weirdest things about my "return" to comic reading in the early Seventies was to find the Green Goblin had apparently dethrone Doctor Octopus. The first issue of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN I bought when I came back was the death of Gwen Stacy -- a character I had not previously encountered killed by a character I did not remember. (It was entirely possible I did not see that introductory issue for the Goblin the first time 'round.)

I still consider Octopus to be Spider-Man's archenemy. He's my favourite.

As for the mask in that link, I prefer it.

Interesting. I always assumed they chose DaFoe because of his goblin
features!

Doc Ock was definitely the best Spider-Man villain in the movies as well as the comics which is why Spider-Man 2 is my favorite of the Spider-Man films (though I haven't seen Homecoming yet).

I think Spider-Man 3 would've been so much better if they'd just focused on Sandman and left out Venom, which is what Raimi wanted to do.

I didn't think Spider-Man 3's Sandman story was particularly good and I'm not sure how a higher percentage of it would have improved the film. I assume Sandman's story would have broadly played out the same way whether Venom was involved or not.

Maybe there would've been more depth to the Sandman story if they'd been able to focus on him as the main antagonist. I just think it's telling that the film where they did more of what Sony wanted instead of what the director wanted is by far the worst of the three Raimi Spider-Man films.

What Robbie said.

The Green Goblin isn't even in my Top 5 Spider-Man villains. Heck, he may not
even be on the Top 10 list!

The french version of this cover was my first contact with the comic book version of Spider-Man.
The scary mask, the secret identity thing... I assumed then that Green Goblin was Spider-Man archenemy...

That original version beats out the chromium clad shell that was used , by a mile.
Yet another questionable studio decision, or whomever made that decision.

And I am in the Doc Oc arch nemisis camp.
Even if I took just Spidey's green clad villains, the Goblin doesn't make top five.
