Any other fans of the Dan? I've been a fan of their hits for years, but only recently have really delved into their full body of work. Now I can't get enough of them.

I don't own all of their proper albums, but I especially love CAN'T BUY A THRILL and PRETZEL LOGIC.

I only have a greatest hits album, and have never delved into any of the studio releases, but I quite like them. One of these days, I'll need to check out the albums above.

There are bands I love, bands I like, and even bands I dislike but appreciate
their place in history.

Steely Dan and Chicago are 2 bands that have no redeeming value of any kind
whatsoever in my universe.

My best friend was a big fan of Steely Dan...and I could never remotely
understand it.

My older brother is quite of fan of Steely Dan and Donald Fagen's solo stuff. I know the hits and like them enough.

I grew up in the late 70s when Chicago brought an unlikely big horn sound and Steely Dan an even unlikelier jazzy sound to MOR pop / rock FM and AM for a number of years yet somehow I still think of them fondly.  Both also tended to put their best energy into their hits so the greatest hits packages hold up best though I did like Steely Dan's AJA and Countdown to Ecstasy.  Two Against Nature was a pretty spry 20 years later, too.  (Chicago IX is my favorite by them, culling the peak of their early-mid period.  Can't speak for the later stuff, which became too Peter Cetera-driven for me.)

Countdown to Ecstasy and Pretzel Logic are perfect albums for me.
"King of the World" has become my favorite song in the last couple months.

I like the band's songs Reelin' In The Years and Do It Again, and Donald Fagen's song New Frontier.

But other than Rikki Don't Lose That Number and Pretzel Logic (which I've not heard in years), I can't name anything else they've done.

In retrospect Steely Dan was probably the most artistically successful jazz-rock group of the '70s. They became too slick-sounding, I admit. But they wrote many brilliant songs.

Favorite LP: PRETZEL LOGIC.

This one is a kick in the private area.

He and Donald Fagan formed one my all time favorite bands (no matter what "genre").

"Learn to work the saxophone...  I play just what I feel...... drink scotch whiskey all night long... and die behind the wheel....."

RIP

Goddammit. I'm sick of 2017. First Cornell, then Gregg Allman and now this. Wish I could've seen them before this. Fuck.

Very sad. 67 is far too young. Half of one of the most distinctive songwriting duos ever and one of the few "pop" or "rock" bands who sounded like nobody else.

I hope there's a big ceremony at Bard College in his honor.
