Superman.

I've always been drawn to characters with a strong sense of decency and values, probably because many people in my real life seem to lack the same, in comics, movies, tv, etc. I can directly attribute this to the impression that the 1978 Superman film made on me as a child (I was four at the time it came out and it's the first movie I can actually remember going to see in the theatre).

I think comic characters are a little too morally loose (i.e., written by different people) to stay consistently high moraled. Captain America? Sure. Superman? Certainly. And at times, Batman, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Wonder Woman, the Vision, Robin, Daredevil, Captain Marvel, etc. - their name is legion.

Maybe the challenge here is identifying the writer as well as the character. Mr. Byrne's Superman qualifies, as does his Captain America... as does his Wonder Woman, etc. He gets the idea of high morals.

And a corollary to this is writers who LOVE giving their heroes feet of clay and deconstructing them to the point of moral ambiguity. Is Frank Miller's Dark Knight morally high ground? How about Kingdom Come's Batman?

Based on the volume and type of comics I have read, it has to be Superman.
