There has been something that bugged me about this episode. Spock mind melding with Nomad doesn't seem right to me.  Nomad doesn't have a mind. So how could Mr. Spock meld with him?  Spock would be trying to access Nomad's memory files. I don't think the Vulcan mind meld would work that way.

Is this case of the writers having Super-Spock do something. In order to move the story along. Or am I mistaken in thinking that the Vulcan mind meld doesn't work on machines.

Yup, this is full-on Super-Spock.

The mind meld was one of the most blatant ways that used to manifest. Beginning as a kind of Vulcan hypnosis/acupressure -- and a dangerous t'boot -- the mind meld quickly morphed into super telepathy, with Spock using it without physical contact, thru walls and solid rock, across light years, with non-human species and, yes, with Nomad.

I'll admit, on first viewing these things didn't trouble me much, but as the years rolled by...
