Though the U.K. government are probably doing everything they can within the law, a terror attack every couple weeks means only one thing: they have lost control of the situation. •• Not really. The nature of terrorism is such that one cannot ever HAVE control. A war on terror is like a war on tsunamis -- impossible, since one cannot predict with any certainty when and where the events will occur.

Something needs to be done to terrorists who are caught to teach a lesson to the ones who are thinking about it to persuade them what a terrible idea such an act would be.
Unfortunately, A) we're talking about a lot of people who are willing to die for their insane belief, and B) most of the world is too civilized to respond in such a manner. This isn't the Dark Ages or "Game of Thrones" that we live in, after all.

This isn't the Dark Ages or "Game of Thrones" that we live in, after all.•• The First World, no, mostly. For the Second and Third Worlds, where most of these people come from, the Dark Ages is very much the model.

What lesson can you teach people who would openly welcome anything you throw at them? Dysfunctional people, brainwashed by religion into thinking that striking down innocent children is the path to Heaven, and that their own death and suffering is just a minor inconvenience.
The UK is already the most heavily surveilled country in Europe. Their anti-terror laws are among the strictest. But they can never guarantee against attacks like this.

If it's likely to help save lives, i would imagine believers in civil
liberties(which hopefully includes most of us) would be willing to consider it.

At the very least, even more tracking down chat room participants, computer 'seize and search', and, yeah, even profiling olive-skinned guys with beards in vans if anything seems the least bit 'off' about their driving. Oh, and tell the mayor of London that terrorism is NOT 'to be expected when living in a large city.' In the Middle East, yes, because this fucked-up thinking pervades that part of the world. But not in London.

London is one of the most cosmopolitan cities on the planet. Hundreds of different nationalities and cultures are folded -- tho not necessarily blended -- together. Londoners can no long think of various extremist groups as belonging to and in other nations. Those groups are part of the British tapestry now.

That`s not just London J.B. most U.K. cities have a wide
range of nationalities,as you say,not all of them
blended.The sad thing is,we are one of the most
inclusive countries in the world,yet a small minority
hate us and are willing to die in the act of killing
innocents.
Just been watching `One Love Manchester` the concert in
memory/tribute of the Manchester victims,i just can`t
see how this will solve anything?

The root of the problem, if there is such at thing in this case, are the Saudi-funded hyper-conservative religious schools, the madrassas. These first popped up in Pakistan during the Soviet-Afghan war and produced the religious warriors who were key to defeating Russia. But after the war, the Saudis did not stop. They kept on opening these schools throughout the world, the Middle-East, South Asia, Central Asia, Europe and beyond. Some folks may defend the madrassas, pointing out that they don't teach terrorism. But their intolerant, supremacist attitudes are close enough to the terrorists that it wouldn't be a stretch for graduates to "cross over".
