Another excellent list, Matthew--lots of memories of hearing most of those on the radio back in their '70s heyday, especially "Kiss You All Over," my favorite from that list!

Great choices, guys... I would gladly listen to and/or buy any of these suggested soundtracks.  I've been YouTube-ing almost all of these for the last couple days!

I would have used All Over The World by ELO but i
adhered to the 1979 limit!

Edited to add...after seeing Vol 2,i think i will stick
with Don`t Bring Me Down...`Groot`

Can't see the film until at least next weekend, here in the States, but I did pick up the AWESOME MIX, VOL. 2 soundtrack on Friday... I'm trying hard not to listen to it too many times before the movie, but I already think it's a better & stronger set of songs, compared to the original.

Great, solid choices all-around.  It's definitely getting me back into the '60s & '70s pop spirit, just like the first one!

(Made a small edit, in case anyone else posts, or if others want to re-edit their lists... the date range is now 1962-1979--forgot that Sam Cooke's "Bring It On Home to Me" was from '62.)

2 Brownie points for the first person to guess the common thread with these artists!

Detroit!

...or...they've all worn leather pants.

Or both.

Right...or Michigan born in general.

But you may have something there with the leather pants Brian!

Do you think James Gunn has all 300 songs on that Zune written down already? If so, when he releases it Itunes will make a fortune.

I love the '60s & '70s music of the original and VOL. 2 soundtracks, but here's hoping Gunn moves into the '80s with the inevitable VOL. 3 soundtrack--perhaps moving on from the mother's "Awesome Mix" playlists and giving us some of Peter Quill's own childhood favorites (from about 1980-88)?

I feel they missed the boat on VOL 2 by leaving out "Sky High" by Jigsaw.

Given its lyrics, style, and subject matter....and consider that Kurt Russell was featured in the superhero high school movie of the same name...seems like a lock.

Yup, another good one, Brian!

I was also thinking the other night that "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" or "The Air That I Breathe" from the Hollies would have made great additions to either soundtrack.
