Pretty much everything there is what the customer asked for. 11x17

The un-erased version, so you can "see the work" -- as well as my board!

Some time back I had Jim Warden announce I would not be doing any more pieces with cover dress, but this one has been in the pipeline since before then!!

Beautiful!
That would have made an action-packed issue!
I'd be curious what kind of scheme Darkseid and the Joker would come up with. Interesting pair...

Random thought--John, do you prefer the Panther with his cape or without?

Either works for me.

SPECTACULAR!!! I wonder how Black Panther ended up in this scenario? :-)

Once again I am reminded of something from which Roger Stern used to get big yoks. Back in the 70s, DC did a double page ad, featuring the banner "THE DC LINE OF SUPERSTARS!"

At a glance, it read "The Decline of Superstars!"

Looks excellent. The Black Panther is my favourite part -- and the Joker's gun!

COOL... that's a very diverse issue of DETECTIVE COMICS with T'Challa AND John Stewart featured on the cover. I want that "issue"!!! :)

Congrats to the owner.

Congrats to the commissioner.

The Joker's smile reminds me of his first appearance and I like the eagle on Wonder Woman's front. Everything else is fantastic also, but those two things jumped out at me.

What I love about these "cover recreations" is how accurate JB gets with the cover dressing.... the small text and Batman image are especially impressive.

That is a crazy commission.
Love your Batman so much!!
At first glance, I thought you had been asked to make it look like GL he
been pasted on the Title like on the old boards.

Wow, really amazing. I especially like how Wonder Woman
and the Joker turned out. If it were mine, I would have
probably gone one size up.

My favorite commissions are usually the crossovers.  It is so great to imagine DC and Marvel heroes meeting in some imaginary Generations-like world, as done by JB.

Love your Batman so much!!

••

This raises a question in my min. The Batman I have drawn here is very much in the Adams/Aparo mode, but I have drawn our favorite Dark Knight many different ways over the decades.

Which, if any, strikes Forum members as "my" Batman?

GENERATIONS happened because the Powers That Were at DC decided they didn't want to do any more crossovers with Marvel, so I stripped the Marvel characters out of a planned JSA/INVADERS miniseries, and viola!

Fantastic!

They all look great. The Panther's stance and Kirby finger nubs awesome.
The Joker however is just out of sight. Something about his gesture it's unfamiliar and completely original to my eyes (which I cannot take off of him)! Bravo!!

**

For me, it's how you drew him in MoS - broader/less lean
than you seem to be drawing him now, long blue cape, no
oval (at least that's how my memory is telling me you
drew him). That's the picture I get when I think "Byrne
Batman".

The Man of Steel Batman is the one I think of as "your" Batman as well. He hadn't looked that good since Adams and Aparo. Also love the Wonder Woman in this. Been reading your Wonder Woman issues lately and really enjoying them.

I find the Joker's face to be so Sprang-y compared to most, which
reads 'deformed', which reads 'gruesome'!

A JB Batman is a JB Batman. Anytime you draw Batman is a treat, and
IMO the only thing you do tend to really change is the cape for mood of
the piece. The ears may vary in length, but your heart is always in the
right place when you draw him no matter what era, so, in closing, I just
love your Batmen.
