Just a little logic says that Wolverine's claws can't be longer than the radius/ulna, or he couldn't bend his arms. They have to be anchored somewhere in the arm, or every time Wolverine tried to use the claws, they'd resist and bend backwards. He probably shouldn't be able to bend his wrist when his claws are extended.•• That kind of thinking is a warning sign that it is time to stop reading comics. ++++ And then the goddamned things are actually BONE?!?!? •• And that kind of thinking is a warning sign that it is time to stop WRITING comics! When Len Wein conceived the character (planning him to be part of s new X-Men team even then), Wolverine was super-tough. Tough enough to bounce back from a fight with the Hulk. And that was pretty much it, as far as "mutant powers" went. The claws in Len's concept telescoped out of the gloves, as noted above. Chris and Dave expanded on the character considerably, introducing the adamantium skeleton, and the fact that the claws were part of him. But for Chris, it did not stop there. As far back as when I was working on the book, he started talking about bone claws. I argued against the idea, as there did not seem to be any kind of "mutation" that would produce that particular configuration. No animal on Earth has claws that protrude from the BACK of its paws. Thinking I was putting the lid on that idea, and nailing that lid down tight, I did the scene in "Days of Future Past" where we actually saw the internal mechanism of Wolverine's claws. But any idea Chris has, he never lets go of. When I left the book, the bone claws returned as a concept, and then as an actuality. And they still didn't make sense!
