I don't get why anyone would do this to a 19 second piece

Regardless of whether it is coloured well or not - the blue looks horrible but I quite like the flesh tones - why would you do that to something that wasclearly intended as (1) a sketch and (2) to be seen in black and white.

Interestingly, whilst I have seen many of these sketches online in the past I never really noticed that the costume was actually left predominantly open (i.e. white)rather than black. It's a testament to JB that in these sketches he provides just what we need and no more. And it's a mistake on the owner on the piece to miss that and not resist the urge to colour it in.

I've noted before that there seem to be many out there -- too mny, whatever their actual number -- who do not appreciate original art for what it is, and want the work to look as much like the printed pages as possible.

This does, indeed, miss the point -- but that's what some people do best!

Some people feel that adding sugar, sliced fruit and sprite to wine improves it. You may not like Merlot, but turning it into Sangria doesn't mean it is better. Understanding the intent of the work is lost on some. Would you want a Barney in some "Byrne rubble" colored like the surrounding rocks or like the cartoon character? Some people just don't get it.

I think it sorta looks all right, but it does totally miss the point of the barebones charm of such a quickly-rendered sketch -- and, as Matt Hawes points out, why deface the original instead of colouring a copy?

Ow!
I second Jeremy's post.

And for his "buddy's" next trick: decoupage!
