It's been some time since we did one of the movie lists. We covered so many topics. It has been difficult thinking of a new angle. I came up with a new idea. The length of this list won't necessarily be the same for everyone. The idea of this is to pick one movie for each year that you've been alive. You can choose your films on any criteria you like. For me I'm going by what film I liked best for that particular year.  Most years wasn't that hard to narrow it down. There were some that proved difficult in picking a favorite. Anyway... Here's my list what's on your's?

1972-  The Godfather--
1973 - The Exorcist--
1974 - Young Frankenstein
1975 -  The Rocky Horror Picture Show--
1976 - Logan's Run--
1977 - The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
1978 - Halloween
1979 - The Warriors
1980 - The Coal Miner's Daughter
1981 - American Werewolf in London --
1982-  Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan
1983 - A Christmas Story
1984 - Terminator
1985 - Fright Night --
1986 - Big Trouble in Little China
1987 - Moonstruck
1988 - Midnight Run
1989 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1990 -  Goodfellas
1991 - Terminator 2
1992 - The Crying Game
1993 -  Jurassic Park
1994 - Ed Wood
1995 - Casino
1996 -  Trainspotting

A fun idea...but damn it was hard to compile.  I chose on the films from each ear that I would willingly watch again and again.  Some I love because they're great.  A few because they're horrible.  Also I found it was interesting how some years had scores of favorites to choose from...while others I had a hard time finding even one film to put on the list.

1970 - Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
1971 - The Abominable Dr. Phibes
1972 - Bluebeard
1973 - Enter the Dragon
1974 - Young Frankenstein
1975 - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
1976 - The Shootist
1977 - Star Wars
1978 - Watership Down
1979 - The Muppet Movie
1980 - Caddyshack
1981 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982 - My Favorite Year
1983 - A Christmas Story
1984 - A Nightmare on Elm Street
1985 - The Return of the Living Dead
1986 - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
1987 - The Princess Bride
1988 - They Live
1989 - The Little Mermaid
1990 - Nightbreed
1991 - The Silence of the Lambs
1992 - Wayne's World
1993 - Army of Darkness
1994 - True Lies
1995 - Cutthroat Island
1996 - Scream
1997 - Starship Troopers
1998 - Mulan
1999 - South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
2000 - Bring It On
2001 - Super Troopers
2002 - The New Guy
2003 - Kill Bill: Volume 1
2004 - Napoleon Dynamite
2005 - Sin City
2006 - Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
2007 - Stardust
2008 - Iron Man
2009 - Inglorious Basterds
2010 - Tangled
2011 - Your Highness
2012 - The Cabin in the Woods
2013 - Oz the Great and Powerful
2014 - A Million Ways to Die in the West
2115 - Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse
2016 - Captain America: Civil War *
2017- (I've seen nothing this year).

* Literally the only film I've seen from 2016

A happy coincidence ,I haven't seen it on Facebook yet.  Probably because I've stopped following a bunch of people. I had been trying to keep my wall free of Skull Island spoilers until I had seen the movie. Plus to diminish some of the pro Trump responses i've been seeing.

Some years were really hard to do. I found 81 and 85 difficult to narrow down. Both those years had numerous films that I consider among my favorites.

Gonna pass on this. First because the list would be too damn long! Second, no idea how to put dates to the early movies without going thru the IMDb title by title!

JB, first off I respect your decision to pass on this one. I must admit that I am curious to what you would have listed.

As to dating I just entered into google Movies that came out in 1972 and so on.  I'm not certain if ever film was listed. I can't think of any movies that I know of that didn't come up in my time frames.

I tried Googling, and discovered HARVEY was released in the year of my birth. So there's a good one to start with!

An interesting comparison, I think, would be the years in which those movies from the start of my life were released, versus the years in which I first saw them. HARVEY I did not see until the early Eighties, for instance. THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL (1951) I first saw some time in the early Sixties.

Gonna pass on this. First because the list would be too damn long! Second, no idea how to put dates to the early movies without going thru the IMDb title by title!

I went through Box Office Mojo to grab mine by looking through the yearly box office grosses for each year.  Unfortunately, it seems the site is having server issues though, otherwise I'd provide the first link I went to yesterday.

1968 - PLANET OF THE APES

1975 - JAWS

••

From Matt Reed's list. Looking back, it's hard to believe there were only seven years between those two films. And harder still to realize seven years was more than a quarter of my life!!

In dissecting my list {in a very unscientific way) by listing my movies under only one category/genre ,I was surprised to see only 3 war and horror movies .
I could have very easily listed Alien under horror but I put it under sci-fi. But if I would have listed The Thing it would be under horror.
I put The Sand Pebbles in the war genre but could easily have gone under drama.
I love westerns but only had 4 listed . The problem with the westerns I like is that they are bunched into the same years, knocking themselves out of the running.
Interesting to see how some actors make my list. Eastwood is bunched in early on my list with his war/western/cop movies, then makes a comeback 20 years later with Unforgiven.
I got Hanks early in career when he was doing comedies in the 80's. But only Road To Perdition since and none of  his more critically acclaimed roles. I'm so unsophisticated.

Interesting stuff. Thanks for the topic Anthony.

edit ;to add one of Hanks movies
