So, apparently, at least one member of the FF, Sue, was based on a real person, or at least, that's what Edith Finck's obituary says.  Apparently she was a long time friend of Stan Lee.  Now I'm curious if the others were based on particular people as well.

Wasn't Ben Grimm at least partly based on Jack Kirby?

I think Reed had some Kirby in him too.

Reed looks like Kirby, but was written as Stan. Ben was written as Jack. So inspiration for the writer could be different than for the artist.

Stan seems more fun loving than Reed.

I don't know that Stan always came across as fun-loving to his employees in the same way that he did to the readers.  I've seen it plausibly theorized that Ditko based J. Jonah Jameson at least partially on Stan.

Mark Evanier just happened to blog about this general topic yesterday.  He says that Kirby may have used celebrities or people he knew as partial inspiration for some of his characters, but that no Kirby character (not even Funky Flashman) was based entirely on a single person.

Yeah, I'm, sure Stan the boss was different than "Stan the Man".  Part of me is curious about Stan's management style.  But the part that says "Don't meet your heroes!!!!" doesn't want to know.

I've often wondered what Stan is like in real life. I mean, I've met him at a convention, but what I'm getting at is what is he like when he isn't putting on the Marvel spokesman showman act. Is he nice? Mean? What does the man behind The Man really act like when the attention isn`t on him.

What about Don Rickles in Jimmy Olsen?
