I have an opportunity to pick up the complete, original Star Wars series
in Marvel Omnibus format.... for a steal. With the exception of
borrowing and quickly reading the first few issues as a kid, I completely
skipped over this series.

Curious about people's feedback of the series and those guys about
grabbing it now.

If nothing else, it's interesting as the series that was coming out while the movies were being made. So, for example, there are stories pre-Empire that explicitly state that Darth Vader and Luke's father were different people. My personal favorite period in the run is the David Michelinie/Walt Simonson/Tom Palmer period in the 50s/60s.

If you're interested and they books are cheap, it's worth reading.

I followed it faithfully from beginning to end and enjoyed parts of it. The book was fairly solid from about #51 - 90 or so. The early stuff was all over the place quality wise due to only having the first film to use a basis for the universe. After the Empire Strikes Back adaptation, it got better and a lot of the run leading up to Return of the Jedi was pretty good. The post Jedi issues, from 81-107 were up and down in quality but were moving in an interesting direction but the plug got pulled on it and the ending of the series was pretty rushed. If I see the Omnibus volumes for cheap, I'd certainly like to pick them up to revisit them.

My favorite run on the series is the 50's
to the mid 60's. This was Walt Simonson's
portion of the book. In terms of canon,
not always on point but there really
wasn't a "canon" during this period. The
books looked great and the stories are fun
reads.

I picked up the older Dark Horse Omnibus trades, a few years back. Love the old Marvel series!

Turns out that my retailer sold the ones he picked up for $29-39 a piece and
the local place that made me aware of them wants $60 a piece. While it is half
the price of the original retail.... I am not THAT curious.

Thanks for the feedback.
