This page was posted in a FB group about the Man Called Nova and it got me to wondering if the inks were "good" or not.  They are very professional and very polished but IMO, they overpower JB's pencils.  I mean, IMO, they don't embellish or enhance JB's look and style, they sort of erase it.

So, as legendary as the inker might be, in this case Joe Sinnott, should these inks be considered "good" if they water down the individual look of the penciller?

This isn't meant as an attack on Sinnott or his work and I'm sure it will be difficult to be critical or analytical without it seeming that way.  Maybe his job was to make JB's pencils fall more in line with how the FF had been drawn up to that point?

The issue looked exactly as I expected, indeed, WANTED it to look.

If I remember correctly, Neal Adams had a similar response in rejecting a fan's invitation to criticize Sinnott's inks on his issues of Thor.

I remember buying that book way back when- I enjoyed the Byrne  Sinnott era- I was a little disappointed in the previous issue (216) with the Pablo Marcus inks- just my opinion

The opportunity to work with a legendary inker comes along but rarely, I'd imagine, and if JB himself is entirely satisfied-- 'nuff said! :)

I actually liked that Marvel made an effort to make their books look somewhat uniform.

You can read a Spider-Man book drawn by Romita in the 60s, Andru in the 70s, or Romita Jr in the early 80s and they all look relatively similar with enough room to tell which artist is which. Nowadays I flip through a Spider-Man trade and the art isn't even consistent in the same book.

This is a great example of two great artists coming together.  The "baby" looks like both its parents!

That page is gorgeous!

Yet seeing Herbie does make me twitch a little.

Joe Sinnott epitomizes good inks. He's
the best!
