This is devastating news.  Like many millions, I grew up watching her on the DICK VAN DYKE SHOW but, more important for me, was her own excellent series THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW.  Set in Minneapolis, the city where I grew up, gave it special significance.  Funny, bright, brilliant, she will be terribly missed.

One of my first, perhaps the first, TV crushes. She did not age gracefully, alas, but one understands the pressures of that business.

Oh, Robbbbbbbbb!

We've been DVRing The Mary Tyler Moore Show on Me TV each week and it holds up better than a lot of seventies sitcoms.  RIP

I've just now seen this news and I'm
saddened to hear it. Kinda of weird that
on the ride home, I listened to John
Jett's version of The Mary Tyler Moore
theme...

Given word of Mary's condition recently, this is hardly a surprise but still a blow.  She starred in two of the all time great sitcoms; not something many others can claim!

Sad to hear.
I had watched a string of the MTM show just days ago, which had me thinking they should have a reunion show, since all but Ted Knight from the regulars was still with us. Little did I know....

R.I.P.

When I was really young I loved THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW and of course had a crush on MTM, and I'm still amazed at the quality of the cast and the significance of THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW.  We like to think that shows are "game changers" but her show really was.  They just didn't make shows about single adult women who were career-oriented.  THAT GIRL was almost that if the main character hadn't been so dependent on her father and boyfriend.

At any rate, if you make a short list of situation comedies that were popular, critically acclaimed and innovative, her show is definitely on that list.

I loved her work on both THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW and THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW.

Surprised to learn her body is interred in Fairfield, Connecticut, not far from where I used to live.

MARY TYLER MOORE is one of my absolute favorite sitcoms of all time and my favorite episode is "Two Wrongs Don't Make a Writer" which is one of the final episodes of Season Four.  (It's the episode when Ted steals from Mary's assignment in the writing class they are taking together.)  I think people have praised the show a lot here but how about a shout out for "Ordinary People" which was a pitcher of cold, icy water in the face of fans of Mary Richards.  Moore was excellent as cold, reserved Beth and damn, did she not turn the world on in that movie with her fixed smile.  Great performance.
