So I was reading Avengers #18 Vol. 3 1999, and I came across a full page ad of an up coming Spider-Woman series done by John Byrne and Bart Sears.
Did this ever happen?  Because if it did I never knew about it until now and I thought I knew about all of JBs Marvel & DC work.
If it didn't maybe JB can shed some light on it.

I've never even heard of this either. Not sure how I missed it. Just did a Google search myself and it looks like there were 18 issues all written by JB with art by Bart Sears (other than a couple of issues with art by Graham Nolan).

I very much enjoyed the series.  As JB fans, it's definitely worth tracking down.

I didn't know about it when it came out and still haven't picked up the back issues. They're on my list, so I'll get around to it sometime!

It was a fun series to work on.* I got to play with some unconventional ideas (such as S-W changing her costume every issue), and mess about with some of the underpinnings of the MU.

Unfortunately, there were a large number of readers who rejected the book on the basis that it was "in competition" with SPIDER-GIRL. Their loss.

____

* Except one issue, where a "guest artist" took it upon himself to re-write major portions of my script. Thorough professionalism!

It was fun to read too!

I wasn't much of a S-W fan when she first came around. But of course I had to try this run with JB writing.

Getting all the S-W incarnations together for a story was a great idea.
We also get Uncle Jonah!

JB, how was working with Sears? This book seemed like a good fit for both of you and was thouroughly enjoyable on all fronts.

I remember this book, kind of.  This was the Mattie that was JJJ's niece, if memory serves.  I was buying a lot of books at that time (early 20s, lots of disposable income) but I can't remember enough to know if I picked this up or not. I had been pretty turned off by the Clone Saga previously and stayed away from most all conventional Spider-titles.  I know I was picking up Spider-Girl, but I love DeFalco, Frenz, and Bagley combination and the MC2 was just so much fun.

I think she is making a comeback in the new Clone Conspiracy books. But, decades later, I still have no interest in Clone stories.

Every time I'm reminded that JB worked on a Spider-Woman book, I get excited.  And then I remember that it wasn't 1) Jessica Drew and 2) not JB's artwork and my excitement deflates.  I imagine I'll get around to reading it eventually.

Jessica Drew did appear in the book, if I'm remembering correctly. I didn't follow the entire series, but I do recall it beginning with a gathering of spider-women, including Julia Carpenter, Madame Web, and a then-recent Spider-Man villainess by that name. No Sonia Braga though...

Don't let the lack of JB art keep you guys from reading this book. Sears does a wonderful job. It's a great book.
