A joke I expect to be doing the rounds at some point

Trump watched a new documentary yesterday night and is now preparing his next speech. It will cover how following World war II the UK was under occupation from Germany. He's going to use it as an example of how Brexit has freed the UK from the EU. Catch it on iPlayer now. Look up SS-GB

There's a book called SS-GB written by Len Deighton. It's been adapted as a TV series on the BBC.  That's what James is referencing.

I thought Chelsea Clinton had a pretty good Twitter response to the Presidential reports that Sweden had been attacked by terrorists.

The problem that needs to be solved is finding a way to distance Trump from
his followers long enough for something like a critical eye to develop. The
problem with his approach is, no matter how dumb he is with facts, his attitude
is so aggressive that I can't see where he looks anything but immaculate to his
loyal fans.

The people who support Trump do so despite his lies, bluster, and outrageous behavior.  Nothing he says is going to shake that support.  The only thing that might is when things start to get worse for them personally.  When the economy tanks, or their insurance disappears, or they get laid off, that may cause them to look at him more critically.  Everyone focuses on Trump's behavior/personality, but it will be his hypocrisy (claiming to be a populist while pursuing a traditional "screw the workers" Republican model of governance) that will be his downfall if anything is.

"The poll, conducted by Emerson College, found that the administration is considered truthful by a slim majority, 49 percent, versus 48 percent of registered voters who said it was untruthful. By way of comparison, only 39 percent of registered voters view the media as truthful, with 53 percent saying the news media is dishonest."

Knowing that people who are polled about Trump tend to understate their support for him, I think this "war" between him and the press will have a miserable end.

George Burns: "Sincerity - if you can fake that, you've got it made"

Trump: "I can fake the best sincerity! Anyone who says I can't is a damn liar."

I can't believe we got a president who would make me long for A. Johnson, Harding, or Bush II.

Then again, if they had lived in eras of mass media... who knows what would have happened? The mind boggles...

Kevin, that statement could be applied to so much of the current state of affairs.
