This has been going on for a while. Using the term "climate change denier" in order to equate it to "holocaust denier", the phrase "cultural genocide" when describing a smaller cultural group being subsumed by the larger, more dominant one, and how any perceived slight is an act of racism.
It's a lazy way to grab attention and trivializes actual genocide or racism. Kind like how everything is now "shocking", "horrifying" and "problematic".

No Neil, I use the term climate change denier but I don’t equate that with the other. The first time I heard that comparison was when I called someone it & he shouted back @ me, shouted back, that he was not a Holocaust denier.
To which I was totally confused.
They are deniers - they deny it exists, despite a lot of scientific evidence.
That trump has just appointed one to a top environmental position is truly scary.

I don't know anyone of any political persuasion who denies that climate change is real, or that its being accelerated by human activity. The disagreement seems to be over whether policies that have been advocated to reverse or slow down climate change would be effective, and whether they are economically feasible.
Calling people climate change deniers just strikes me as a way of disengaging from the debate, but having the luxury of blaming the other side on your way out.
At this point I think its time for us to be realists. Scientists are telling us we are at the tipping point. Some even say we're beyond it. Yet there is still enough of a stalemate that its unrealistic to expect drastic changes in U.S. policy, or that changes that might occur will do more than delay the consequences of global warming for more than a very short period of time.
China and Latin America aren't making big changes either.
So its time to start thinking about how we're going to handle the consequences of climate change, rather than how we're going to stop it. For example, we know what cities are going to be threatened by rising sea levels. Are we going to wait until they're under water before we do anything about that, or are we going to start protecting them now?

Ah, John, if only you had had the conversations I had had.
I have spoken to a fair few people who actually state there is no climate change. They don’t believe the climate is changing, they don’t believe temperatures are going up & they don’t believe heavy storms are getting more frequent & heavier.
There isn’t a debate to be had with those people, I’ve tried - they dismiss anything that is said, regardless of evidence.
So yeah, climate change denier. Someone who denies climate change is happening.

My social media is full of people insistent that COVID is a false pandemic pushed by the US medical establishment in order to discredit Trump and that there’s a secret cabal of Hollywood illuminati who run a worldwide pedophile ring that Trump is covertly working to destroy, so it’s quaint that someone thinks that the climate change debate is restricted to a rational disagreement over economic policy.

My wife went to a business meeting the other day - she is the company accountant. She was the only one wearing a mask and a good proportion of the people in the room did not believe the virus was real.
They were annoyed that the business had been shut during lockdown and lost money, this despite getting government grants that amounted to tens of thousands of pounds.
The town has just gone into special measures as cases have started to double every seven days again. Because people don't believe the virus exists.
This cycle will repeat until people grow a brain. That their actions endanger others just annoys me to no end.

And then in 2015: "I believe in clean air. Immaculate air. But I don't believe in climate change." LINK to source
To name just a couple.
On pretty much any extremely cold day he will voice a dumbass question about isn't there supposed to be global warming, thus demonstrating his complete lack of comprehension of the difference between the weather and the climate.

Maybe we should start telling people that the only there is no climate change, or the only way corona doesn't exist, is on a sphere-like Earth. If the Earth is flat, then there's climate change and there's corona.
Denying corona - damn them to hell anyhow, volunteering to spread the diseases with ignorance and malice. If I were more evil and vindictive, I would say to shoot them up with corona and tell them, "But of course, there IS no corona - so you should be perfectly safe." Killing all those Corona Mary's might be safer in the end than letting them willingly spread it.
This presidency has taken its toll on me, God damn it. Or Asimov damn it.

******
Tucker Carlson, just last Friday, 9/11, said “At the hands of Democratic politicians, climate change is like systemic racism in the sky. You can’t see it, but rest assured it’s everywhere and it’s deadly, and like systemic racism, it’s your fault.”
Since he has also said before that systemic racist doesn’t exist, it’s a pretty safe bet Fucker totally denies climate change.

I did not intend on calling him that in my last sentence, but since he’s ok with getting people’s names wrong, I think I’ll leave it.
