Acting presidential...

Yesterday he had a little anti-Chinese outburst on Twitter.

Today he tweeted:

"Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!"

Is this just an off-the-cuff remark? Is it an official policy position?

Shares in Boeing have fallen 1% on the remark.

It's ridiculous for him to call for such a measure.  The planes are vital to a President's security.  They feature electronic countermeasures and counter attack defenses that will keep his orange ass ALIVE while in the air.

But if he and his Nazi Lite Brigade wants to fly around in that tacky, gold plated pigeon he calls and airplane, by all means...do it.

I think what Trump is doing is negotiating the cost, not cancelling it altogether.  Or he may find someone else to build the planes if the cost is cheaper.  Obviously the planes need to be built.

You can tell Trump has no clue (I know, shocking) about how important Air Force One is for a President's protection.  It's not just a fancy plane with extra gadgets and gizmos....

Okay, as someone who flies a LOT, I do have a silly question I wonder regarding Air Force One. I wonder if the lavatory doors still have ashtrays as the doors of all other planes do. Whatever company still manufactures and sells these ashtrays must know someone to have cemented such a call.

Good luck with that. Boeing are already contracted to make the planes. The US Government would have to pay over a hundred million dollars to Boeing if they go to a different company.

Crucially, this does not affect Trump's security during this term -- he will be using the current Air Force One. The one he is talking about cancelling will affect whosoever is President in 2020 and onward.

As for the actual accuracy of Trump's quoted number...

This is what Josh Earnest, the White House spokesperson, had to say:

"Some of the statistics that have been cited, shall we say, don't appear to reflect the nature of the financial arrangement between Boeing and the Department of Defence."

************

From what was stated this morning on NPR, the current contract for this is actually $140 million. Which is a far cry from $4 billion.
