Eagle artist Martin Aitchison died on October 22nd aged 96. After a short spell on Kitty Hawke and her All-girl Air Crew in Girl, in 1952 he began a near ten year run on Luck of the Legion in Eagle, a strip that at one point was second only to Dan Dare in its popularity with the readers. Rather than a standard full page, Luck occupied the bottom of the centre spread in the Eagle.

He later worked on a number of other strips including Danger Unlimited (!), Hornblower R.N. and Conan Doyle's The Lost World. In 1963 he began a 25 year association with Ladybird books. He retired in 1987 but drew the strip Justin Tyme - Ye Hapless Highwayman for the fanzine Eagle Times from 1998 -2004.

Yes, DANGER UNLIMITED. He was one of my favorite EAGLE artists, and that was one on my favorite strips. A few years ago I was able to obtain four pages of gorgeous original art from it.

Sorry he's gone, but that's a good run.
