It's actually been at least a decade - or more - since I've listened to ROCK AND ROLL OVER, Brian. :)

And, yes, I'd settle for a good 1970 song!

So, DRESSED TO KILL...

"Ladies In Waiting" remains one of my favourite KISS songs - from any era.

"Getaway" is a lot of fun, definitely one you could listen to on a loop. Every time! (I may have listened to it more than once).

Some I have spoken to seem to dislike the first two minutes or so of "Rock Bottom", but I feel that it is hauntingly beautiful, and what follows is a lot of fun.

"Anything For My Baby" is a song you just want to get up and dance to!

And "Rock and Roll All Nite" leaves one feeling BLOODY ECSTATIC! I have heard this live, and it's fucking awesome!

This album, in my humble opinion, is better than the first and second albums. Things are getting more exciting, they are becoming a more distinct band, and things seem to be getting louder. Love it!

Love Her All I Can, She and C'mon and Love me are the standouts for me. Rock Bottom, too. I could live without the rest. Hate the production on it.

Not sure when I'll revisit ALIVE!, but it may be within the next few days.

I like to listen to new music, but I think revisiting my favourite band had to be done.

The first few albums definitely lack in the production
dept, there`s quite a bit of filler too, which i guess is
true of the latter 80`s albums, when Gene was more
interested in a movie career.
As for Robbie`s last comment, i like to put my phone
which has virtually all my collection on it, on shuffle,
it often throws up long unheard gems, or put it on
shuffle featuring a specific artist.

Should I listen to DESTROYER again or not? I've listened to it about 345,657 times already.

EDIT: I think I'll dig out the LP rather than the CD for DESTROYER. Maybe not tonight, though...

Of course you should, it`s a classic!
Here`s a tale...the first Kiss album i bought was
Dynasty on it`s release, the thing was, the record shop
put the wrong disc in the sleeve (In those days you took
the empty cover to the counter, to prevent shoplifting)
They actually put Destroyer in the sleeve, can you
imagine putting that on and hearing Detroit Rock City
for the first time? Obviously i took it back and
exchanged it for both the correct discs!

Off-topic, years ago, at a jumble sale, I bought a DUKES OF HAZZARD jigsaw puzzle.

I got home and the pieces inside were the 1984 movie, DUNE.

What the fuck?!

Put on the DESTROYER re-release instead. The one with the original cover they put out a few years ago.

Just the original on vinyl, I'm afraid. ;-)

So, to DESTROYER, my *favourite* KISS album. It's louder, more bombastic and a hell of a lot more fun than what came before. This is how KISS should be.

And what an album cover. Here's my vinyl:

"Detroit Rock City" is awesome. Now that's a song to listen to - and dance to. And play the guitar to. And make love to (that last one is a joke!).

I'm not that crazy about "King Of The Night Time World". It's perfectly reasonable, but I just never feel the need to listen to it randomly, only if I am intently listening to the entire DESTROYER album.

"God of Thunder" is the best KISS song ever. And, no, that's not open to debate. ;-) (And if Bill disagrees, we are done as friends!). It's bloody awesome.

"Great Expectations" feels like it should be on a different album, but it's a good song.

"Flaming Youth" is a fun song. Musically, "God of Thunder" is my favourite, but lyrically, "Flaming Youth" may win the prize!

"Sweet Pain" is one you'll definitely want to sing yourself. It'll never be as good, though.

If you don't like "Shout It Out Loud", you are dead from the neck up. ;-)

"Beth" is, well, what it is. It's lovely. It's different. Maybe it, like "Great Expectations", belongs on a different album, but I do like it.

"Do You Love Me" is a tad overlong, but still lively and good to listen to.

"Rock and Roll Party" is not on my vinyl copy, but I know it. What can one really say about it, eh?

DESTROYER is a bombastic album. KISS has seldom seen better!

I also still have Destroyer on vinyl. And yes, God of Thunder is the best KISS song ever.

I still have the only 3 vinyl albums I had when I was a kid. DESTROYER, R&RO and the Gene solo album. I do have KILLERS, but I got it after I was an adult.

I`ll give you this Robbie...God Of Thunder is the best
Kiss song with Gene on vocals!
I think Great Expectations is a great song, i love the
live version with orchestra and the children`s choir.
Beth, is a classic, probably Peter`s best song after
Hard Luck Woman.
A classic album, lacking only a classic Ace vocal!
Sweet Pain is a bit `Meh`

Looking forward to your views on Rock and Roll Over and
Love Gun!

So, ROCK AND ROLL OVER...

"I Want You" is a great start to the album. It's songs that like which kept me being a KISS fan. But that's about the only song on side one that I like. I may as well not comment on the other tracks because they pretty much do nothing for me, and elicit little-to-no emotion from me.

Side one is far too ordinary and pedestrian. Too samey. In my humble opinion, this is not the best of KISS. It certainly isn't a CD I listen to often. Side one is a bit of a slog, to be honest.

Onto side two...

"Love 'Em and Leave 'Em" is okay, I guess. Just like the first track of side one was good, this is a song I enjoy.

And, well, side two is akin to side one. Spooky. Nothing on this album really stands out. There are no distinct tracks, not really. It's repetitive throughout. Which the likes of DESTROYER isn't. I think ROCK AND ROLL OVER is one you'd listen to if it was playing in a bar, but for me, I doubt I'd reach for it consistently.

I suppose "Hard Luck Woman" is okay-ish, but it can't compare to "Beth".

The album does at least end on a good note with "Makin' Love". If I may use baseball parlance, it's the MVP of the album.

Still a very ordinary (too ordinary) album for me, though.

Isn`t that Kiss though? Destroyer apart, some brilliant
tracks and a lot of filler?

It can be. I just feel this is a rather underwhelming album.
