It's not my favourite album cover, but KISS' debut album cover is fairly intense (I'm just looking for an excuse to share it):

They certainly had some great covers, my favourites are
Destroyer, Love Gun, Dynasty and Creatures of the
Night.I remember my vinyl copy of Love Gun came with a
free Love Gun!

I was never keen on their "Hotter than Hell" album cover:

I wasn't even that keen on the cover for "Dressed To Kill":

Thankfully, "Destroyer", which is my favourite album, had a great cover!

CREATURES OF THE NIGHT is still my favorite KISS album cover (DESTROYER second), and CRAZY NIGHTS is the only cover from the no makeup years that I like.

I distinctly remember being at a Stock car racing event
at Hednesford Hills Raceway and Destroyer being promoted
over the Tannoy, i had no idea who Kiss were! Then about
a week later i saw the album cover in the window of
Snead`s Newsagents/Record shop in local town
Willenhall...i just HAD to investigate Kiss after seeing
that artwork!

Absolutely. It's very inviting.

Since we're on a "tour" of the album artwork, I do quite like ROCK AND ROLL OVER even if it's not my favourite:

DYNASTY was rather ordinary, not my favourite cover:

Destroyer's my favorite no doubt. Love Ken Kelly's art.
And I'll take this original rejected cover too, please and thank you.

I give the rejected cover 7 out of 10. I give the official cover 10 out of 10. ;-)

I was never keen on the art for UNMASKED (too cluttered):

I had a nice poster of that with the vinyl! My only
gripe is the `con` of them unmasking, mind you by 1983
they did it for real!

P.S. It struck me that Ken Kelly has form for classic
album covers...Rainbow Rising!

...

Ha!, now I can't unsee that.

I think it was the burning buildings that got it rejected though.

You may be forgiven for thinking I'm not a KISS fan - the music will always count, but I didn't like the cover for MUSIC FROM THE ELDER, either:

Doug, both covers seem to have devastation in their
wake, but the rejected cover has that skipping, pink, camp
look that the classic Destroyer art doesn't have!

Yes Bill, that pink had to go.

But I'll still take it if someone's feeling charitable :-)

Fun fact: I had to take an art class in high school and part of it was we had to do a comic strip. I created a band of characters based on Universal monsters and stole the story from Unmasked almost panel for panel.

(I'm a terrible artist by the way, but I needed an art credit.)
