Sasha attacking Negan was just a bonus for her. She didn't want
Negan using her against the group. She choose to kill herself so that he
couldn't.

Absolutely disagree. She had time and opportunity to kill herself before
then. She specifically asked Eugene how long it would take to get to
Alexandria. She wanted to make sure she'd become a walker by the
time Negan opened the coffin.

It's interesting that as close as the series is now being played to the comics, the Sasha-equivalent, Deanna, IIRC, is actually "weaponized" by Negan there and used by him against Rick and co.

Other than that, albeit with the Scavengers as an added extra, it plays reasonably close with the tiger similarly knowing who the villains are in the comics and leaving everyone else alone.

Sasha said she didn't want to be used against the group. Dying was the only way she could make certain of that. Her going out the way she did was because she was a fighter. She wanted to kill Negan. So she gambled that he would be the one to open the coffin. But she couldn't know for certain that it would be him. Or that she would even succeed. So killing him was the icing on top of the cake.

Certainly it was a gamble, but her intent was sacrificing herself to kill
Negan. That was foreshadowed in the previous episode where she
tried to con Eugene into giving her a weapon to kill herself, when what
she really wanted was something to use against Negan. It was
reiterated in the tedious dream sequences with Abraham about how
they do the things they do for someone else and if they were going to
die, there'd be a point to it. It was hammered on again with Maggie
telling Rick that she was sure that Sasha had planned it. And both Scott
Gimple and Sonequa Martin-Green made a point of saying that Sasha
weaponized herself.

Negan made it seem that Sasha coming along to be a bargaining chip
was voluntary, and while he's the villain, I didn't see any point in him
lying at that point. She wanted to come along to spring the walker trap
on Negan.

I enjoyed seeing Abraham again. But I agree 100 % it was very tedious.

I agree that killing herself when and how she did was with an intent to weaponize herself.  The success of her plan was based on a gamble. She failed to kill Negan but she did succeed in taking away his ability to use her.

I loved seeing Abraham again too, but after a while I needed to fast
forward through those scenes.

They could have achieved the same result with fewer scenes.

It was a very big build up to the final reveal. I was thinking as they flashed to her repeatedly inside the coffin "Okay, this coffin thing is not metaphorical..."

Liked the episode overall. Some online have said that not much happened and it didn't give Rick's crew a clear-cut win after the devastating season opener. Not sure I agree with that. The Saviors were rocked back on their heels, the Scavengers are going to be hunted down and paid back for their treachery (where are they going to go?), and three communities are now united against Negan.

It will be bloody and more epic in scope than many past TWD seasons this fall. Might also be the beginning of the end for the series, which... could be good. Go out on a high note.

As far as the Scavengers go, can anyone imagine any of the three allied communities allowing them to come close, much less enter? They'll be shot down like rabid dogs, which is about as much as they deserve.

I liked the coffin idea, but I feel they missed a huge opportunity. IMHO they needed less flashback to Abraham and completely dropped the ball during the tree clearing stop. I would have loved to see a short scene where Negan checks in on Sasha who hasn't died/turned yet and we see Eugene in the background who understands what Sasha is up to. It would tip their hand regarding Eugene's future because he either warns Negan when they arrive at Alexandria or he doesn't. And that would speak volumes about how committed Eugene is or is not to Negan.
