After the season opener, I thought I might drop WD but it keeps me engaged albeit it has to be the bleakest most brutal thing I'm watching at the moment.

Without giving anything away, I'm a big fan of the comics and it's interesting how close this season is staying to them, more so than any that have gone before.

I'm having a very hard time keeping my mouth shut this season. My wife loves the show, but hasn't read any of the comics. She has been very vocal about how eager she is to see Negan and Dwight get their respective comeuppances. It has been a sincere struggle not to give away the possibility that she may be in for a very long wait.

Well, thanks for telling the rest of us that haven't read any of the comics. ;-)

I know the barest of information about the outcome as it happened in the comics. I would be curious to see those events come to pass. In order to see the groups reaction to it.  But I don't think I'd mind if they changed the outcome.

The  main flaw with the Season 7 Episode 4 episode is the short passage of time and the presence of "broken Darryl".  It's established here that the episode takes place 3 days after the killing of Glen and Abraham.  Fine.  However, coming with "broken Darryl" contradicts what we saw in the last episode with Negan & Dwight attempting to break Darryl.  It's heavily implied that the time for them doing this is a period of "weeks" not "days."
*****
I didn't take Daryl's non-existent attempt to argue for his release back to Alexandria as his being broken.   I took it as his canny realization that Negan was just messing with him and that anything he said to Negan in that circumstance would be wrong and there was no chance for his release.   That's not to say he's feeling great; I imagine he feels pretty awful about Glenn's death and doesn't want to do anything that might jeopardize more lives at this point.

Fear the Walking Dead up to this point is a failure for me.
*****
Me too.  I like the drug addict son and I liked Ruben Blades but Blades may or may not be coming back and I really don't give a #*(% about the other characters, who are all vanilla.  The father, who they really tried to build up in the season finale, just doesn't work for me at all.  I think I'm done.

It's all very good, but my "nihilism thermometer" is very hot now. I need hope!

Not normally a fan of the "solo" episodes but this week's featuring Tara was more engaging than most. The communities we've been too recently have all seemed similar, but this time we got something a little different.

(As a side note, I have taken to having subtitles up for programmes. It's either my ears, modern actors annunciation or sound quality on TV these days. Well, it was having subtitles this week that I discovered that the aforementioned character was called Tara having assumed she was called Terra. Do all Americans pronounce it that way or is it just on WD?!)

I don't know if all Americans pronounce it that way. I just know that's how my family pronounces my cousin's name

Both TAIR-Ah and TAH-RUH are used as pronunciations in the US. The
former was popularized by GONE WITH THE WIND, set in Atlanta
where Tara is from.

Thanks Michael and Anthony. I was genuinely surprised when I saw it written down.

I'm torn on this series - part of me doesn't like the elements that deviate from the comic book, whilst part of me gets tired of how some episodes are playing scenes with pretty much exactly the same dialogue. I want to be surprised but not too much!

Time to stop watching, I guess.

Any love for the mid-season finale? I think this run has been a slog and a half but if they take the second half where I think they are going to, given the comics, things may start to improve.

I enjoyed the mid finale. I was glad the one of the people died. I really enjoyed the manner in which they perished. I was surprised by the other person but I didn't care about the character.  I was glad that it was something of a calm episode. That was setting up for the gathering of the communities.

Jumping ahead to a few months when the show returns. I am expecting that Sasha is going to die. With the actress joining the new Star Trek series. It seems logical to me that she would be leaving this show.

I was fine with the midseason finale, at least the final scene that seems to re-establish the core team and sets them in a position to take action for the second half of the season. I doubt I would've stayed on had they not done that. This season has been pretty dull after the initial shocks of the opening episode.

That being said, Negan completely bores me. I get that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a charismatic guy but his run has no tension and, frankly, I'm really struggling to buy that no one's taken him out by now. I don't find him intimidating at all, even when he's doing terrible things. It seems like he's leaving the stars of the show alive simply because of their billing, instead of it feeling like real storytelling.

Negan is even worse in the comics, and is still alive.....

The Walking Dead's back and we've got Rick and the gang meeting Ezekiel at the Kingdom tho' the King declines to help bring down the Saviors. Great to see the the group together and working toward the big battle with Negan which judging by the pacing will certainly lead into the season finale.

-C!

Yeah, looks like they're finally putting the band back together and Ezekiel's rejection is just the usual stalling for time to get to the appropriate seasonal climax.  He'll come around!

Had to like Rick's grin at the end when the Amazonian women ambushed them.  This is the same oceansiders Tara encountered earlier, yes?

It may be the Oceansiders... I had hoped that one of them would stand out as recognizable from the Tara episode, but I didn't see any of the same extras (maybe one will stand out when I catch a repeat). Could this group be aligned with Father Gabriels actions earlier in the episode? As Gabriel drove away, a figure popped up in the back seat...

Just rewatched that sequence and you're right - very creepy (although it must be the front seat as moments earlier we had sight of the back seat and it appeared to be full with provisions).

I enjoyed last night's episode, but it really did feel like Rick and the
group inadvertently wandered onto the set of some 70's post-
apocalyptic sci-fi movie.

I didn't think much of the episode. Do we need ANOTHER quirky group of survivors that the group has to learn to work with and/or battle? Already?

I don't think I've ever watched a series that ponders quite so much in it pacing.
