Hi!

I've read this story arc some 25 years ago thanks to a local edition in my country. At that age I didn't have enough money to buy a lot of comics so the only way to keep reading them was to trade them at book stores.

I've recently felt nostalgic for this era of the Batman and I track down many back issues written by Starlin, Owsley and this arc by Byrne. Wow, this is the Batman I like!

On to the question... In The Many Deaths of the Batman Chapter 2 ,we see Batman fighting a female character (villian?) in Paris. Was this a new character created for this story or was she an existent DC villian?

I would also love to know any trivia about this work (like when JB explained that the first chapter would have been completely silent had he knew Jim Aparo was going to draw it).

How was the public response to it (does anyone have the letter columns of the next issues)? How did you came up with the story? That sort of things. :)

It's great to read of a Batman that can fail and be hurt and/or outsmarted.

Thanks in advance!

Yes! 25 years is a LOT of time! It goes by so fast...

Any hope that you elaborate more on this subject? Based on your answer, it seems this brought some memories/emotions. :)

It sure brought a lot of fond memories on me...

I remember when I bought the first chapter... we were with my father in the downtown and he bought me the issue in a newstand. We walked a couple of blocks and I couldn't stop flipping through the issue. Then I realize there were no text balloons (except for one)! Being one of my first comics and never before seen a silent issue, I concluded that my copy was wrong and we walked back to the newstand to compare it with the other copies. None of the copies had text balloons. Hahaha. I think it was the first time that I paid SO much attention to each of the vignettes and all of the details! I already liked Aparo but after this issue I liked even more!

Ariel,
I had the same reaction as you did upon first sight of
this book! I shut the whole Marvel world out of my
mind and became an INSTANT Bat-a-holic. Little did I
know that John Byrne would never actually do a Batman
run, as it seemed to my eyes a perfect match. Jim
Aparo's artwork was moody and note perfect, and I
wanted MORE! NOW!

I'd be interested to know the print run on this title,
as I've only seen #2 in abundance, and found the
others to be scarce, at least in my area.

I know you guys love Aparo, but I really wish JB had drawn this story.

I enjoyed this just a hell of a lot, but there was a problem in the first issue.

Too wordy.

There is a TPB of this (although it may be out of print) which is WELL WORTH the reading! Cannot recommend it enough.

In the same way the Claremont/Byrne era of the X-Men are my definitive version of the characters, Adam and Aparo's Batman is my definitive Batman.

I love Aparo's Batman as much as I love Byrne's Galactus, Darkseid, Wolverine and Superman!
