There have been some great Superhero origin stories. Which are your favorites and which one do you think is the greatest of all time? Lets limit this to five favorites and one for greatest. If it is among your favorite list.   I'm going to post my list after reading some of yours.

Top 5:

5.) Batman
4.) Thor (Blake finding hammer, is that still canonical?)
3.) Fantastic Four
2.) Spider-Man

And at #1, has to be the Hulk. Terrifying, but entertaining.

As regards my #1 choice, I loved how it's been done visually, particularly in the 1982 THE INCREDIBLE HULK cartoon.

I think, whatever incarnation we are talking about, a gamma explosion will always look cool!

#1 Spider-Man. A moral message that still resonates and will always be a valid lesson that all can learn from.

#2. Batman. His origin speaks to our fears: Having our parents taken away from us, and wanting to get justice for the crime.

#3. Superman. His origin is both biblical and mythological in nature. It's a true classic, and timeless.

#4. Wonder Woman. Another one that is mythological in nature. Superheroes are modern mythology, and Diana is the queen of that mythology.

#5. The Hulk. It encapsulates the fears of the atomic age. It's about science gone unchecked and emotions out of control.

These all are classic heroes with classic origins. There's a reason they have thrived for decades and still something about them still speaks to new generations of people.

Spider-man and Batman are my faves.  Some similarities in their tales (deaths of close family members at the hands of criminals they eventually avenge) but for me these two pack the most power.  I've also always liked Dr. Strange's origin though they rarely revisited his former "shallow" self subsequently and I was never that into him in the post-Ditko years.  Apparently The Ancient One's cure took!

1) Daredevil- blinded but gifted!
2) Captain America- the dedication of a weak guy
3) Hulk- brains/brawn clash, plus Banner victim of his own weapon!
4) Batman- it's the idea of what a truly driven regular guy can do
5) Dr. Strange- growth of character and redemption

Actually Paul it would still be playing by the rules. It may not be clear by the way I wrote it. A total of six in total is allowed. The sixth one is legal if you don't included the one you think is the greatest with in the five favorites.
